I think it's more than that though. He was great on the summer camp circuit and at the Elite 11 Camp. He's then had a remarkable, record-breaking SR season that only ended because he couldn't finish a playoff game against powerhouse Saint Louis HS due to a rib injury.

I believe 247 has had him ranked ahead of Akili Smith Jr and Ryan Montgomery for most of the year now. He just recently moved up one spot to 9th on their list.

I mean, he is technically still "committed" to Cal, and he is going to be visiting Cal again this weekend (perhaps the "buzz" you speak of?), so it wouldn't be a total shock if they hang on to him. That being said, as of a few hours ago, Oregon "insiders" have publicly stated they remain confident he will be a Duck (whatever that is worth).

Just a couple days ago, Jaron gave a very positive interview to Andrew Nemec regarding his visit to Oregon. He apparently had a leader in mind and doesn't think that will change, but asked to keep it private. The fact he said all of this right after his visit to Oregon, and the way he has gushed about the Ducks at every opportunity, certainly gives the impression that the Ducks were the team he had in mind as the leader at the time of the interview. They also wear the 8 to represent the 8 major islands of Hawaii (although only 7 are inhabited) in addition to the 808 area code reference. This is definitely a pipeline situation that Oregon is and will continue to take advantage of (so long as top ranked QBs continue to rise out of the Pacific Islands...)
