The team has potential, but there’s a lot of work to do.

Altman needed perimeter shooting, so he went out and recruited a bunch of guys that can’t shoot. I’ve been banging that drum since last season ended.
That was fucking UGLY. No two ways around it. No one looked good.
And no one is going to convince me that Simpkins isn’t just an extremely poor man’s Elijah Brown. Absolutely hate watching him play.
Altman has his work cut out for him.

Odd to continue to rip on Simpkins when he was probably the best guy on the floor tonight. Only guy that could create his own shot, and obviously had the game winning basket when nobody else could hit the broadside of the barn. Hopefully Evans doesn’t have a severe knee injury, or it could be a rough year. He was looking much improved.

Exactly. Evidently the Ducks spent their NIL allowance on keeping Bittle, Shelstad, and Evans. I’m good with it mostly. But it looks like they have recruited $10k stipend players that were mainly outcasts from their previous teams that have minor value. Simpkins excluded.

Simpkins is allergic to team ball. Don MacLean even commented on it. Easily the worst +/- on the team tonight. Oregon’s only run came with him on the bench, and Hawaii’s 15-0 run came right after he checked back in.

That is an extreme conclusion to draw from one game. I do agree he needs to play better team ball but not like the off ball movement and floor spacing did him any favors at PG. Everyone was standing around way too much. Plus the other options were Lin, who looks like he’s just been playing Chinese street ball until now, and a walk on. There are a lot of issues with this team and arguably the biggest no show was our highest paid player in Bittle.

All our transfers and off-season additions are not good, as we all figured.
Oregon spent all their NIL money on our big 3, and as a result we couldn’t get any good players or high quality shooters (as someone mentioned above). And we’re left with mediocrity. Hopefully our big 3 stay healthy.

I can't deny extreme prejudice. I HATE this current transfer culture, and I absolutely loathe this particular archetype. 23 year old volume shooting senior transfers with long histories of inefficient scoring against lesser competition at smaller schools. Elijah Brown, Devion Harmon, Jacob Young, etc. As soon as Simpkins was signed I knew we had another one. For the last couple of years he's been shooting a ton, at a poor percentage, for a team that finished in the bottom half of the CAA. I'll eat my hat if anyone here can even name another CAA team without looking it up. In his BEST year at Elon, he would have been the 9th best shooter on last year's Oregon team.
I don't even really care about Simpkins specifically. I'm just so sick of Dana bringing these guys in. They're never valuable and they always mean the team's ceiling is lower.
