Re: Defensive Depth Chart
LB is scary because it isn't deep nor does it have star talent at starting level. Where other positions at least have have one or the other.duckpoint wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 2:19 pm Linebacker is looking thin and there doesn't seem to be a lot of talent available in the portal...

And this is why it makes no sense that our LB coach stubbornly refuses to go get someone from the portal...UOducksTK1 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 6:01 pmLB is scary because it isn't deep nor does it have star talent at starting level. 100% need a greendot LBer. Might have some tampering to do to get the right guy.

Yeah this is a real mistake by him. The LB position has consistently been one of our weaker units under Dan.pdxduck2013 wrote:And this is why it makes no sense that our LB coach stubbornly refuses to go get someone from the portal...UOducksTK1 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 6:01 pmLB is scary because it isn't deep nor does it have star talent at starting level. Re: Defensive Depth Chart
As much as I love Dan at a certain point I feel like he needs to be more of Saban or Cignetti and step in when one of his assistants is making a mistake. It was detrimental to the defense last year when Michalowski didn’t take a portal LB. I know it’s easy to see in hindsight, who knew the three young gusts would get injured and Jackson would regress. But he was even asked about it and chose not to hit the portal for an LB.pdxduck2013 wrote:And this is why it makes no sense that our LB coach stubbornly refuses to go get someone from the portal...UOducksTK1 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 6:01 pmLB is scary because it isn't deep nor does it have star talent at starting level. Yet again it’s clear we need to hit the portal for a LB and once again he wont. To me this reeks of stubbornness from Michalowski.

Who is the head coach? Whom is supposed to be a DEFENSIVE head coach? Whom ultimately is supposed to make these decisions? Agree that Dan needs to own it.

Re: Defensive Depth Chart
Devon Jackson didn't regress; he just wasn't fully healthy after having hip surgery following spring practices. On a Twitter Space hosted by QB11 right after the Orange Bowl, his mom said that Devon wasn't supposed to be back until early October. He was playing again by fall camp, but he was nowhere near where he was during the 2024 season. He gutted things out until he near his full self by the time of the UW or JMU games.OregonFan4Life wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:38 pmAs much as I love Dan at a certain point I feel like he needs to be more of Saban or Cignetti and step in when one of his assistants is making a mistake. Re: Defensive Depth Chart
I would actually be pretty shocked if the LB coach was making the decision about whether to bring in a portal LB.
Head coach? Absolutely. Defensive coordinator? Probably has a lot of say. Position coach? I imagine it starts and stops with him giving his opinion. If a program develops a problem in its LB room because a position coach doesn't like coaching transfers, it isn't a LB coach problem, it is a head coach problem.
Imagine if Oregon were to return Novosad and Moga at QB and Dan were to come along and say, "I think we need a portal QB". Let's say Oregon had a QB coach and he said, "No Dan, I don't like 'em, we aren't doing it". That's not happening. Why should LB be so different?

Re: Defensive Depth Chart
I’m probably getting ahead of myself as we don’t know what’s going on being closed doors, but if they aren’t taking a portal LB that certainly is a mistake in my opinion.Everythingsducky wrote:‘Yet again it’s clear we need to hit the portal for a LB and once again he wont. We have needed LBs for years. What is the problem?

Re: Defensive Depth Chart
Linebacker, yet again, is a major problem. Poor job in the portal at LBer.
