Fact: Easley always wanted to be a Gator! Fact: They didn't offer so he picked PSU, but somewhere in the last couple weeks they decided to offer and he jumped on it.

Easley wanted to be a Gator since day one. From what I understand, they just offered either this morning or last night

And that's still the difference between a school like Florida and Oregon. Oregon cannot offer a top recruit one morning and have him commit that afternoon or the next day. It's always a drawn out process for Oregon. It takes multiple visits and a lot of convincing.

You realize that hard recruiting on the east coast is still fairly new to Oregon, right? And last time I checked, the commits we have are still pretty solid.sepdxsnwbrdr wrote:Another year left standing at the altar, holding the bouquet.
Easley was just the first of many. The next time Chip actually gets a top recruit to sign with UO it will be the first time. Literally.
Have a nice winter everyone. I'll be back in time for spring ball. No sense wasting another year paying for bogus recruiting info that never materializes. Bring on those 2 star JUCO's we always get stuck handing schollies to at the 11th hour.
It must suck to be so bitter.

i know you dont wanna read it, but man its been painful to be a ducks fan for about 24 hours now. let the guy vent a little. we all know there are some studs that have jumped at the chance to be ducks, and we know there are some gems like boyett waiting to emerge. but lets not rip on people for venting a little right now. i mean its either on here or his wife/mom/gf has to hear it again and again. for his wife's sake.

...and haVE been right in my opinion of Kelly's ability to close recruits(OR LACK THEREOF)...3 years running.
Please let me know which recruits Kelly has visited in-home, so I can scratch them off my list. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Chip in New York before xmas visiting Easley?

Re: Kelly Can't Close. Fact.
If you look at who we are competing with for these recruits, I'm not at all surprised that Kelly and the coaches haven't been able to close with them. If Kelly didn't at least try with them, then he would never know how far Oregon football can reach. The only thing that he can control is to keep winning and make the recruits believe Oregon can get to the highest places in college football and beyond. Honestly, did you actually believe that Pryor or Brown were going to commit to Oregon? To me, they are nice targets to go after but most recruiting classes are built on the likes of all the 3-4* players we routinely get every year.sepdxsnwbrdr wrote:Brophdog88 wrote:He's been singing this song since before Chip was head coach...same ole suff.....whosyourwally wrote:i know you dont wanna read it, but man its been painful to be a ducks fan for about 24 hours now. let the guy vent a little. we all know there are some studs that have jumped at the chance to be ducks, and we know there are some gems like boyett waiting to emerge. but lets not rip on people for venting a little right now. i mean its either on here or his wife/mom/gf has to hear it again and again. for his wife's sake.

IMO (however you may chose to interpret that), until Oregon wins a couple of these big time battles , both on the recruiting stage, and on the Spotlight Bowl level (Such as the RB), there will not be a significant change in the overall recruiting success.
Part of that is coaching, for sure. Part of it may well come down to the show Florida put on against Cincinatti, compared to the Ducks against tOSU.
The difference may have helped nudge a player like Easley to go back to his first love.
I have to admit, it would be interesting to see how a Wilcox or some other young gun would operate this D. I feel that at least part of the lack of success in recruiting certain positions like the DT, can be a result of recruits' perceptions of the quality of the scheme.
I guess we will see how things pan out.

Re: Kelly Can't Close. Fact.
Not getting the 5 star guys is not a matter of Chip not being able to close it is a matter of Oregon not being an elite program and those types of guys having their pick of any school they want and 9 times out of 10 they are going to pick an elite program over an up and coming program. Oregon was unable to beat one of the perceived big boys and until Oregon can string together a few BCS wins they are not going to land the 5 star guys. In my opinion since Kelly's arrival Oregon has had their best recruiting classes ever and every year seems to get better. This season both on the field and recruiting wise so far is a good start to a new era in Duck football.

plus terrell pryor was saying the main reason he was considering oregon was because ck was an amazing recruiter. he was persistent and kept working pryor, and pryor had a ton of respect for him.

Re: Kelly Can't Close. Fact.
You're right. The Ducks suck. We never get any of the good recruits. Hell, we were lucky to win 10 games this year with the slugs we have on this team. Stars and bars...if we don't get the Blue-Chippers there's no way on God's Green Earth we're going to win games or go to the ROSE BOWL! Chip needs to resign. No sense wasting his time here at Oregon! Geesh! Give me a break!sepdxsnwbrdr wrote:Another year left standing at the altar, holding the bouquet.

Re: Kelly Can't Close. Fact.
I'm more curious on why, when someone says he'll be back for Spring Ball, he keeps on checking this thread? We get good players coming here, even if they aren't ranked highly by any of the scouting sites. J-Stew, for me, was the best and highest ranked Duck and when we landed those 4 from De La Salle, well, that was the time to shout from the rooftops. Oregon gets people who fit into our program and if a JC is the route to go, so be it. There's a reason the school pays these coaches and the reason us DAF members keep sending in our checks...they produce results. I'd take a LGB over a Chris Harper any day.
