It is not uncommon for coaches to move around in their areas of emphasis... Especially young, up and coming guys with aspirations of becoming a HC.

This thought crossed my mind also, especially because of the fact that he's only signed a contract through June 30th, 2010, or one season of play. I find it odd that as high as Bellotti was piling on the praise about him that he's only signed a short term contract, unless he has other things in mind for him. It's a well known fact that Aliotti has aspirations of being a head coach so maybe he's on a short leash and Frost is just signing one year contracts until Aliotti leaves? Of course, I'm just speculating and don't have any facts to substantiate any of this.
This guy (Frost) has been mentored by some of the best, Bill Walsh, Tom Osborne and Bill Parcells, to name a few. He should be a fantastic addition to the staff, but I'm still scratching my head over him coaching the QB's. He did a great job as D-Coordinator at Northern Iowa. I guess it shouldn't be too big of a deal as Kelly was a defensive coordinator at one time, as was Bill Walsh. I just learned that one today!

Not only has he had great coaches he has been a QB in a allot of different O and also played some WR and DB at Stan, so he should have a very good understanding of what WR are supposed to do. Also he will have some name recognition when he calls a recruit.

I read somewhere that he played safety in the NFL, hence his qualifications to actually coach both sides of the ball. Kind of like Chip - both D & O.

Aliotti did start out on the offensive side of the ball before switching to defense.........so who knows.
Aliotti to become WR coach and Frost DC.

I thought it was pretty much a done deal that Kelly was taking over ASAP? If it's not, why are these coaching changes being made right now?

Think of it this way... Oregon is known for continuity in its coaching staff. Would you think it would be better to make incremental changes as contracts expire, or blow out the whole staff and start with a completely new group of coaches, and all the adjustments that would entail, from Day 1 when Chip takes over?
I think I would choose the former.

Per MOPs' article in DucksAttack, I find it strange we would only give him a 1 1/2 year contract throught June '10. Is this standard for position coaches contracts?

So, anybody in the know able to say which other coaches have contracts expriring at that time? June of 2010.
By the way, tickets for the UO vs. Tennessee game go on sale in June 2010.

I'm certainly no expert concerning the issues/considerations made for a position coach contract, but 1.5 years doesn't seem all that out of line, especially with an expected head coaching change and imminent reshuffling of coaches in the near future anyways, it's good not to get too tied down to any situation. Think of it this way, if Frost were just the WR coach for the year, and next year it was intended that he change coaching positions, well new job = new responsibility = new pay = new contract anyways. I'd expect that all new contracts that are made from now until Kelly takes over won't be for more than a year, giving Belotti the flexibility to leave when he decides (if he hasn't already decided, that is).
Personally, as a member of a family that hails from Nebraska, I'm totally excited for Frost to be our coach. Because of the diverse positions he's played and coached throughout his successful career, I think his understanding of both sides of the game will help him to teach our players the nuances of their job from multiple offensive and defensive viewpoints.

Frost's contract is brilliant! It gives MB/CK a chance to see if he works out or not and its step up for Frost...its more of a show me contract before you get a longer deal!

Does Frost start recruiting immediately, like today?
