Not sure stadium size was the point.
I know, I just added it because it bugs me.

I live in DC and get to State College pretty quick. On Saturdays you can hear the State College radio station broadcasting games here in DC. It is a straight shot up from Baltimore and between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

East coast standards are the opposite of what you state. I work in central DC and have workmates that live in Pennsylvania. They drive it everyday. State College is not far away from very rich recruiting ground.

I've lived in NYC and now Charlotte. Quite aware of East Coast standards and people bitching about how long it takes to get from NYC to Philly or DC.

I worked with multiple PSU grads that complained about how distant it was from there to anywhere.

Petey to Seattle changes EVERYTHING! Does Gabe want to play for a new regime' with NCAA sanctions hanging over it like a Mark Mangino gas bubble after a 2-hour bender at Taco Bell! And what say you Seastrunk? Hmmmmmm, the winds of change are a blowin' and I'm guessing the Trojan double-wide will be upside down when it's over!!!!

One thing that SC and CAL doesn't have is 3 of King's best friends pulling him to Oregon.

W/ 2 of his NC boys already committed and Allen reportedly WANTING to commit, you have to imagine that all 3 of these guys want King coming to Oregon. Also, while I'm not sure about the family situations, if Scales' and McCain's familes are friendly w/ King's parents, that could help w/ familial pressure on King as well.

He's been to alot of our games and is no doubt in almost constant contact with our other commits and our coaches (as much is allowed), so while I certainly see where and why the negativity is coming from, I think there is cause for some positivity as well!

Allen wanting to commit? Where did you hear that from... he's a solid verbal to Alabama, ya know, the National Champions. Don't be silly.

Not being silly. By many accounts his choice was Oregon but his family's choice was Bama. Yes he's a solid verbal to Bama and I'm not suggesting that anything has changed w/ that, just that people were saying that they were HIS 2nd choice and his family's 1st.

Just parroting what others have said. Regardless of Alabama (completely unrelated to my actual point) Allen, along with the other NC boys would surely want King to be a Duck rather than a Trojan or a Bear. THAT was my point.

Did you really intend to use "the winds of change" and "Mark Mangino gas bubble" in the same post? :o

One of the more disappointing parts is that it would've been nice to get the extra pub of a recruit selecting Oregon on national tv. Getting one with Mathis is good. Two with King would've been even better.

shall I go on?
Penn State is close to major population centers here on the east coast. They also have a huge stadium.
Nebraska has tradition and are the only player in the state. They have a very large, nice stadium.
Illinois? I would guess that their level of recruits is not much different than ours. They have a large, redone stadium.
Wisconsin's town and campus are MUCH more appealing to the general student IMHO. I loved my time in Eugene however going to school in Madison would have been a lot more fun. They have a large, rowdy stadium
Arkansas's town aint much, however their facilities are fantastic and the weather, at first glance, is better than Eugene. They have a large, newly redone stadium

Should not be in the same argument:

Boise gets it done with coaching and chip on the shoulder attitude. We are not losing recruits to Boise.

I don't know about going against the listed schools for recruits. Seems to me that we have done OK going against Wisconsin and Nebraska with a few. Suh aside.

The one constant with all these schools (minus Boise) is stadium. That, I think is the most obvious gauge to most recruits. We as duck fans must come to grips with the fact that Autzen is nicer than it was, but it is still a tiny little dump of a place. The crowd can only do so much. Watching an Oregon game on TV is like pulling teeth for me. The camera angles make it look more like a HS stadium than a college shrine. In person it looks like a nice place, however if a recruit just came from a visit to Penn State, Nebraska, Illinois, or Wisconsin Autzen would look like a toy.

Fancy locker rooms only do part of the job. Indoor practice facilities try to hide another problem.

We can't change the fact that the weather in the Eugene/northwest area possibly could be the worst in the nation in the eyes of many recruits. Snow and cold does not bother a lot of people, especially if they are from an area like that already. Rain bothers everyone. Lack of sunshine bothers everyone. Everyone, that is, except Oregon Duck fans I guess.

Although I am sure that finishing the north side of Autzen might not be worth the dollars right now (or ever), I do wish it somehow could get done. We need 70,000+ to open some eyes. We can't change the weather. We can't change Eugene. We can try to overcome them.

The distance we have come since I was in school is substantial to say the least. Have we just hit the roof? I'm thinking yes.
I question whether you're even a Duck fan. Calling Autzen a dump of a place is literally one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard on C4Q. It's been praised by many opposing players, major media figures, and recruits from across the country. And a lot of recruits also love the town. Eugene and Autzen are assets, not drawbacks.

You wanna see the dump, go hang out at Short Mountain... Or Montlake.

Fuskie Stadium is one of the nastiest places out there, right now.

Cal had carpet pulling off the fiels while the Ducks were playing in the rain in '08.

The Rose Bowl and Coliseum are huge venues, but the RB has serious access issues.

Sheesh!

And just remember, the Burrito Bowl is so cool that fans would rather tailgate than sit in the bleachers!

By dump I mean small. Not the best choice of words by me I guess. Autzen is small. I am not comparing to just PacX stadiums. Most are not all that impressive. Washington's is large and in a beautiful spot. Not great for watching a game, but a beautiful spot. Cal's is in the same boat IMHO. Great view of campus, and hills and 70,000. I believe that is the number we need to get to.

And please do not question my level of fandom. If you want to get into a pissing contest about how deeply rooted we are with the university and football program, all I have to say is bring it on. But I don't want to do that.

The only statement I am making is that I think Autzen is a small venue and that in this case size does matter.

Probably has a lot to do with perception...Part of the reason that it is so imperative to get visits on game weekends is to expose these kids to the "Autzen Effect"

For the size of the Stadium, there is no spot in the country that truly matches that.

Sucks, but not surprising. Maybe he doesn't like living in Eugene.
