This made me think of something...

Might be wishful thinking, BUT, if Lache does indeed announce that he's a duck on the 27th, the Ducks will have one week - 7 days, to drum up the excitement of getting a top kid nationally and try to parlay that into an extra commit or 2 on the 3rd.

Even better would be if Jefferson, Werner, or any of our many other guys would also commit before the 3rd as well...

In my opinion, we get a few of these guys already. If we can build up some excitement and hype going INTO the 3rd, who knows, something little like that could be enough to tip the scales on a guy like Owa, Heimuli, etc.

Under the right circumstances, we could be in great shape! That all starts w/ Lache on Wednesday though -- keep your fingers crossed its gonna be a long week and a half!...
I hope so that would probably help some of the other guys pull the trigger on the Ducks! All of the suspense and tension will be over in less then 2 weeks. :P

Definitely could create a domino effect. Kids want to know who their going to be playing with and if you don't think stars matter to an 18yr old they do!
A 5 star kid wants have 4 and 5 star players around him. You will rarley see a 5 star recruit going to a school with only 2 and 3 star players so in that sense Stars definitely make a difference !

Come on Lache !

You just back your recruiting up a year. You go out and take a couple 3* early commit type guys next year (with the schollies you didn't use this year) and then use next year's schollies to swing for the fences again. It puts you in a position to be playing guys who are a year younger than they would have been, but you can see how your recruiting pans out this year before deciding to lower your standards.

It's hard to have decent guys, like Washington, sitting around and waiting until NSD to see if you miss. If we go after fallback guys this year, rather than taking them early in next year's class, you have to settle for the real dregs, guys who couldn't catch on with a decent team, and are willing to drop them for us at our beck and call.

I'm ok with it, as long as they really do go out and sign a couple big earth movers early next year if they miss out on Werner, King, Heimuli and Owa this year.

I think we are getting Werner though, and I'd give us a 50-50 shot at Owa. If he isn't committed by tomorrow, I think our chances go way up. Nebraska needs him and mom to be sold while still in the glow of the in home visit. If that wears off and he's not a Husker, I think distance ends up being the deciding factor, and he's a Duck.
