Re: Washington State @ Oregon
I can remember getting technical fouls called due to rude behavior of the student section... There were times referees stopped play when the standards at Mac Court were bouncing to give a warning to tone it down or else. This for stomping and cheering, without the necessity of vulgarity.
Now the Pit Crew is "entitled" to crude/rude behavior?
Things have certainly changed. Not for the better, IMO.

Look at what college students now find funny and what movies they watch. They tend to go for movies that are pretty foul-mouthed and low-brow humor.bellsduck wrote:It's too bad you feel that way and apparently that is what college sports has become. Sportsmanship seems to have lost it's place in college sports. Until recent history student sections were known for being passionate and loud, not classless sheep that repeat one-liners as if working in a sidestreet comedy club. When I was in the Pit Crew we were known for being the loudest student section in the country and were able to get the basketball standards shaking simply from noise and passion. I'd be willing to bet more free throws were missed because of that than a ill-conceived attempt to be humorous. Sadly, recent Pit Crews have become smaller and known less and less as passionate fans, but instead as classless lowbreds.KingofDucks wrote:As Pit Crew VP, although I just finished my last game as a senior, if we get news that a player knocked up his foster sister, we're gonna use it. We aren't there to make anyone feel welcome and this isn't baseball (a sport which I love) where class is a part of the game. College football and basketball games are full of passion and pageantry and student sections are there to give the home team an advantage. If we can get into an opposing players' head about something he did, not something he was a victim of, then we will. He CHOSE to have sex with his foster sister and now she's pregnant. In no way is growing up in foster care easy, but he still made a choice, a very poor one and although it isn't our business to judge him, we aren't there to play by society's rules. We are there to distract him and give our team an advantage. Racism, homophobia, or any other kind of prejudice is not welcome and we try not to make fun of someone for being a victim of something. But we will hound on any player that makes a mistake, regardless of that fact that we ALL make mistakes. It's just part of the college sporting world.buckmarkduck wrote:Foster sister? That to me seems like something they should have left alone, and they could show a little more class than that.

When was this? You mean when the Pit Crew chanted "dead beat dad" at Henry Bibby? When the Pit Crew made fun of Leon Powe's house burning down? You older people like to think that the Pit Crew was once classy and that you lived in a classier time, you're deluded if you think that.bellsduck wrote:It's too bad you feel that way and apparently that is what college sports has become. As for noise, we were just as loud in 2007 as the Pit Crew ever was. The Pit Crew has only been around since' 99 and has never been known for it's sportsmanship or class. At Oregon, where there isn't as much love for bball, our crowd is only as loud as our product on the court is good. And the Pit Crew can only do so much. The rest of the fans in the stadium must be an average age of 55. They are quiet as hell. We chose not to make fun of victims, but when you mess up, we let you know about it. Sportsmanship is overrated.

Re: Washington State @ Oregon
The pit crew has really gone down hill recently. I was never an "active" member but used to sit in the pit. Midway through my junior year, I stopped sitting in that section entirely because I didn't want to be associated with those animals. The Kevin Love game was flat out embarrassing. I'm not an Oregon native, so maybe I don't understand all of the hatred behind the situation (though I do know that Stan Love is a jerk). However much of a jerk Kevin may be, he didn't deserve to be called a "fag" and other derogatory terms. I remember feeling bad for all of the freshmen in attendance since they were just following what the older members in the pit crew told them to do. It was a herd mentality. The leadership of the pit crew was just terrible. Gone were the creative taunts. Everything just became vulgar and mean-spirited. Calling Nate Robinson "Gary Coleman" = hilarious. Nate was a little punk who deserved to be ridiculed. Calling Appleby "Applebitch" = ok, but not clever or funny at all. As I stated previously, the Kevin Love stuff just crossed the line.
That game was the most embarrassing moment of my time in college. Yes, much worse than when my roommate walked in on a girl giving me dome.

“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

I got done with school in 2007 and felt that some of the chants were starting to lack originality and were descending into just plain name-calling. The "Gary Coleman" chant was funny, as were certain chants about the Lopez brothers' likeness to Sideshow Bob and Justin Guarini. Before that, I enjoyed the chants about Doug Wrenn from UW (aka "UConn Reject") and Luke Walton. When I heard the chants about Love on TV, that is when the Pit Crew had crossed a line, just like the Henry Bibby chants.uostudent wrote:The pit crew has really gone down hill recently. Ahhh, The Pit Crew! Become a member and you get to sit in the front because you are in the "club" because you are willing to wear a matching color T-shirt and yell exactly what someone tells you to yell. What a joke! Students used to wait outside for hours for those lower level seats because they were passionate about the team, understood the game of basketball, and knew what Oregon was trying to build. Now it seems like there are just a bunch of sideshow punks that only show up in force when Oregon is winning and think they are in some sort of exclusive club. HA! What a joke!woundedknees wrote:I can remember getting technical fouls called due to rude behavior of the student section... However, that being said, I don't think the student section is any worse now than it was back in the day.....Dropping racial slurs on Brandon Knight and losing student seats, gum in Reggie Miller's hair, "Dead beat Dad", and the pizza box incident are all just as bad as the more recent gay blast sign saying "Tim Hardaway hates Ryan Appleby" and what went on last Saturday. Oregon fans have always been on the edge of classless.

If I remember right, Didn't Nate Robinson steal the ball and dunk on one of our duck while the pit was chanting Webster? I seem to remember that happening and i going pretty quite.uostudent wrote:The pit crew has really gone down hill recently. I was never an "active" member but used to sit in the pit. Yes, and if I remember correctly, he did it in a game that wasn't close. Nate was one of the biggest punks in college basketball ever to play at the pit.
