I'm sure his contract with Nike would be increased substantially also if he comes to UO. I've also read rumors that UO, with the help of donors, are willing to pay 4mill a year for the right coach, so we may be in the ball park here.

Same here. I wish we'd just pull out all the stops & go for Dixon. You won't have to give him $4 mill + like you will with Billy D & you'll be getting a coach just as good IMO. Plus I am in love with his coaching style. That tough-big east-defensive minded-opposite of Kent-style.

Obviously Billy D has accomplished more but I think Dixon is just as skilled of a coach.

dixon is more consistent though, and overachieves with the talent he has (not as highly touted players as what donovan's had). i think they're both great coaches and each have their own advantages.

And Donovan for twice as much as Dixon..In the neighborhood of $2M vs $4M. I vote for Dixon as the more cost effective move. But the 1-2 better recruits that Donovan might bring in could improve us enough to be that much better, faster. If Dixon comes here I will take cost effective. Same for Few versus Turgeon both less profile, but may be more long lived here than the other two. Also the same for cost effectiveness for Turgeon over Few. I like Turgeon's recruiting connections in Texas. But the name of Donovan means so much nationwide with our awesome facilities now/soon. So it comes down to cost effective versus, instant success. Or Donovan ( fastest turn around) vesus, Dixon or Turgeon, (cost effective ) Few is the odd man out, except in the most likely to stay here for the duration contest.

Donovan Wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is easy. I'll take instant gratification since I am a bias Duck Fan. It is not my money. And with the biggest success soonest, it will pay back the soonest. And set us up to continue a tradition here.

Nike / Phil invest in this and then we get paid back with success and revenue in his investment in the new arena. With 2-3 great recruits a year and a great coach, we could sell out the arena and pay for the coach.

I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself there. Oregon may compete with USC every now and then, but they just have too much history for us to overcome their advantages and be considered equals. As for BB, UCLA's run of titles will never be matched and they too have history and geography on their side. Oregon can build up a more consistent program but we won't be on par with UCLA for awhile.

I know I'm in the minority, but I just wish we'd get someone that can coach. We don't have to get a name for that to happen, but a lot of fans are obsessed with the name factor. I think we head down a bad road by paying someone $4m to come here and probably the only reason they'd be coming here is for money. Ultimately the next time they get a chance to make more somewhere else he'd leave. I'd be happy to hire Butler's coach for instance, just to name one.

I don't think you're in the minority. IMO the "havta get a big name" thing has been blown way out of proportion. We don't NEED a big name. It would be preferred but as far as I'm concerned we just need a guy who can COACH. I want us to get Dixon or Turgeon. Not because of their name but because I think they're really good coaches.

I would love Billy D but not for $5 million. Especially when we could get a like Dixon for half the price. Or a young guy like Stevens at Butler for around $1.5 mill. Like you said, I just want a good coach. He doesn't need to have a bunch of national titles & final 4s on his resume.

Its not just the fans who are obessed with getting a big name. Its what the athlete department wants. They want a big name coach to open Matt Court.

Stevens would be great.. if they dont spend a ton of money then Bennett
from st.marys would be intersting. im just not sold on him. but it sure sounds like they feel they have to make that big splash to sell tickets.

well by getting a big name, you're getting a guy who can coach, there's a reason these coaches are big names in the first place.

To be fair, Billy didn't win til his 12th season. Dixon just finished his 7th season, and his success so far has been comparable to Donovan. Also, building a successful team is much easier to do in the SEC than the Big East. Either way, I'd be happy with both. I just love Dixon's coaching style and I feel like he could be dominant in the Pac-10.

If you want to look at a comparable style to Dixon, just look at Howland since Dixon basically kept everything that Howland installed at Pitt. He may have adjusted a bit since Howland left, but it is very much the same.
