Who watches the NIT if there team isn't in it? Not to many fans! Now put those same teams in the tourney and the NCAA will make a lot more money, because we all like to watch the first week of the tourney. Also the #16 needs to beat a #1 argument isn't really valid because I'm sure a team like Carolina, who was left out, would play a lot closer to Kansas then some sun belt team who gets beat by 40, and NC may actually win that game with the right bounces.

Are you saying this is a good thing because they make money? I mean, I know that's the real reason for them doing this, but I don't think that makes it a good thing. I think it's gonna suck having the biggest upset possible in the first round be a 9 seed. Not exactly exciting.

You're right, it is all about money. I wouldn't like the expansion for several reasons, but one of them is that average teams would make the tourny and you wouldn't have to have all that great of a regular season to get in.

Below average teams already make the tourney. I would bet that VaTech, ASU and Illinois would have beat every #16 team in the tourney. In fact I would bet UO could have beaten every 16 seed.

Truth. We beat the #16 seed that Duke beat, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, by 20 points early in the season.

This is the BIGGEST reason I dont want to see this. The whole fun of the tourney is seeing the teams like Butler, George Mason, Gonzaga back in the day make these improbable runs through the tournament. I think that if you add another game to their schedule, you will see less small teams make it to the elite 8 or farther.
