Humphrey Transferring

I think the biggest reason is probably the departure of Payne. Rememebr he is the one that really recruited the Chicago kids. I expect Crittle and Dunigan will follow too.

Humphrey was extremely overrated as a shooter coming in. He never hit more than 35% from the field or from 3 during his time at Oregon. Sucks for him that he is leaving, but I won't shed a tear.

He was a streaky shooter, but he often came up big late. Which is fine by me.

But, like I've seen with guys like Wiley and Sim, it's hard to judge player's abilities under Kent. The asinine substitution patterns and inconsistent playing time is horrible for shooters, who need to hit a rhythm.

As for more Chicago kids bolting, I don't see Dunigan transferring. I think Dunigan thinks he can get to the NBA after this year, and sitting out for a transfer year would only delay his professional career. So IMO, we're okay there.

He might think that, but unless he drastically improves his junior year, he probably wouldn't even get drafted if he left early. We'll see if Ernie being gone makes him a better player.

While Giansante says there is no timetable for hiring a coach, there probably should have been because they have put the players and program in an indefinite limbo. The program has basically come to a halt while everyone else is moving forward. If we lose Dunigan, Crittle, and/or Wilson, then I say we are probably screwed for at least the next 2 seasons.

Yup. Honestly, I cannot blame players for transferring. Firing Kent wasn't the problem, what happened after that is the issue.

Agreed, but we could say that about quite a few of our recent NBA players. Improvement would indeed be part of the equation.

Look at all of the bigs leaving school early this year..... there could be a void in next years draft

Yes. I believe he was the only coach that was retained because of his relationship with the players and recruiting connections. However, I think with the coaching situation up in the air, Payne split for UK.

I have heard zilch on this, and found nothing on Google, either. As of one week ago in the Oregonian, there was a report that Calipari was interested, but Payne said he was staying at Oregon.

I remember reading this in Rickerts blog??? Did it not happen?? I hope you are right. At this point, why not just give Payne the job. He can recruit, has huge connections, and can't possibly be a worse coach than EK, right?

Payne is the only assistant coach that is already under contract for next year.

I don't think he can leave unless Oregon releases him from his contract?

There is going to be a void in next years draft because there is going to be an NBA lockout...all the fringe guys are coming out this year because there is a pretty significant chance that no one gets paid after the next NBA season
