Hopefully we can salvage someone from this class, but Kyle Wiltjer is the big fish in 2011. Land him, and we'll do just fine.

same as in football stars are not always as they seem. Take for example
Malik good player but not the one and done they said he would be. he
was rated the 7th best player in the country coming out of high school.
He to me didnt fit that rating. Oregon has had kids rated alot lower that
turned out better then their ratings. Also remember that players sometimes
mature later in their college playing days. Lets give Altman a chance.
We wont know his full effect until all of his own recruits are playing and
Ernie's have gone.

Why is it laughable? What's laughable is that you're already giving Altman no credit, and acted as though Kent was great and could easily pull in 4 and 5 star recruits.

pudge, you seriously need to stop acting like Kent was such a great coach and recruiter. Obviously your laughing at his comments that we can't expect to get 4-5* guys with our past history. But he's right! Sure Kent pulled in some good recruits, but if you take out that class with Malik/Bryce/Oguchi/Luenen, then his recruiting has been pretty mediocre this decade.

If Altman pulls in Polee and some 3 star prospects for this class, he already has just as good of a class then any of Kent's previous classes.

Oh ok, well still. I think he can recruit just as good as Ernie did. We'll have to wait and see, but the fact that you're judging his recruiting skills already to me seems laughable. The man just got here and he's already got a 4 star recruit visiting here. Not too shabby for just a couple days. Give him time.

And if Altman can keep some of the top recruits in state over the next few years, then yes, we'll be having 4-5* recruit classes, because the talent in Oregon these next few years is LOADED. And Ernie failed in that category (at least within the last 5 years), so let's see how Altman does.

Pudgejeff lost all credibility a long time ago. Blindly supporting everything EK did & refusing to accept any criticism of him. Now you are already critcising a new coach who hasn't even coached a practice yet. Can you say hypocrite? I really wish this board had an "ignore" option.

Like it or not, Ernie Kent did bring in 4-5 star players and Altman will be expected/judged to do the same.

Obviously he came into the game late this year and get a pass, but considering he only brought in two 4 star players into Creighton over the last 8 years..... recruiting is a legitimate concern.

2011 should be a big class and I think his success at Oregon will be reflected by who he's able to bring in. Hopefully he can capitalize on the local talent.

There's enough talent in the 2011 class to fill it up with 4* recruits just from the West Coast. If they can keep Payne on, the national level could yield more if they strike out with a couple of the West Coast recruits.

fans tend to give the head coach too much credit on what recruits come in. a lot of the higher profile guys we landed under ernie were because of kenny payne first and foremost. altman's main job right now is to make sure payne wants to stay around, and if he's thinking about leaving, convince him otherwise.

because if kenny stays, we'll at least be getting the same level recruits that we were under ernie. the other factor that always helps recruiting is winning and if the program is winning, more and more of the recruits are willing to buy into what payne is selling them.

there's an obvious reason why calipari keeps going after payne each year. the recruiting connections he has are superb, and i would be extremely frustrated if payne left because he didn't get along with altman.

bball recruiting is diff than football recruiting for the simple fact that the best players are usually one and done, or at least want to be. academics, location, facilities, and other factors such at that are much less important. the bigger factors are the coach, the style of play, and where the handlers of the kid tell him to go (hint hint where the nike, payne, www connection comes into play).

so while i want altman to keep the remaining kids here like jamil, his first and most important task to ensure our program can bring in the talent we'd need to succeed is to convince kenny to stay put. you just can't let that good a recruiter walk.

I don't think you're evaluating this right. Remove the word 'only' - he brought two 4* players to Creighton. CREIGHTON. Maybe he won't recruit well here, maybe he will, but recruiting 4* players to a mid-major school means that he's a competent recruiter at worst.

look at Tony Bennett when he was at wsu. they never had many if any
4* recruits. They would win 20 games. make it to the tourney. They did
it with his players buying into his system. Playing great d and they would
beat teams with several 4* players. I dont hold alot of stake in the star
ratings. alot of time it's the players desire and how hard they play that
will win out.

Loyd can definitely play and I would love to see Oregon land him. He is very quick, an excellent shooter, and a good distributor. Unlike Tajuan Porter, he is actually a point guard. He is not just an undersized SG. Loyd would be an excellent pickup for Altman.

From the highlight videos I've seen of him, I see some similarities between he and Jerome Randle.

Need a PG to take over once Armstead is gone. I don't think it's a big deal he is so short. Look at Isaiah Thomas at Washington; he's about the same height and doesn't get pounded too badly when on defense.

I like it that it's I that has lost the credibility...Yet no one is going back on what they said as to how we'll be able to attract a big name upgrade coach...I'm sorry but Altman is a lateral move at best, And I mean at the very best...And in that move we created turmoil, got laughed at, had players leave, created significant instability and all at this point with it being a lateral move at best for just the sake of making a change which is never a good thing...On top of all of the guy we brought in is hated by his fan base casue he can't win in the postseason...wonderful...Creighton is a has been at this point, they hadn't been to the tournament in 3 years and he had been bringing in JC players instead of HS recruits as of late...I've accepted plenty of criticism about Kent but also made sure that I pointed out his good attributes...Just as I said I wasn't making final judgment on Altman and also giving him a pass on this years recruiting and big applause if he is able to bring Polee and others in...Why don't you actually try reading a post and understanding it instead of going straight back to your ignorant unread views of things of which you like to push on everyone all the time...nothing you say ever has any actual thought just spitting out rhetoric you hear from others...try formulating your own educated opinion every once in awhile

1. Creighton is a mid major. Just the fact that they got to the tournament all of those times is saying something, especially with mostly 2 star recruits. They shouldn't have been expected to win in the tournament either. The teams they played had more talent.

2. Oregon didn't make a change just for the sake of making a change. This program has been in the dumps for awhile. They made a change because Kent didn't do his job.


I think everything worked out fine. Altman is an upgrade over Kent.
