This. Catron was the living embodiment of all that was fundamentally flawed with Ernie Kent basketball. Catron seems both open and teachable, so here's hoping he has a big year.

I never really understood fans getting on Catron. Every time I saw him playing he was working hard, and doing what it seemed like he was being told to. You could always see his intensity out there, and I think that with good coaching, not yelling "move", he can actually do well as a role player this year. I am really excited to se not only his growth, but also how a lot of others react to the new coaches and their way of doing things..could be special.

Agreed. Effort was never his issue. He just tried to do way too much, and didn't always know his limitations.

I continue to maintain that his game against Alabama in Maui two years ago was the most impressive individual performance from a Duck hoopster since Luke Jackson dropped 40-something on Colorado in 2004. He was unstoppable.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! he had 17 Points and 13 Boards...hardly exceptional numbers....and unfortunately for him that is one of his best performances...Catron is just a undersized role player

I agree with the role player part, but any interior player who grabs 13 rebounds in Oregon's recent history has some serious ability that needs to be developed.

I would also accept Chamberlain Oguchi vs. Washington in the 2006 Pac-10 Tournament, Tajuan Porter vs. UNLV in the 2007 Sweet 16, Bryce Taylor vs. USC in the 2007 Pac-10 Tournament Championship, Aaron Brooks vs. UCLA in 2007, and perhaps even Jordan Kent vs. Washington in 2005. I like Catron vs. Alabama, personally, because most of the other performances I mentioned were strictly hot shooting games, particularly Oguchi, Porter, and Taylor. Not that there's anything wrong with that (I sure as hell enjoyed them), but Catron was dominant taking it to the hole, which gets extra kudos points for being such a rarity in the Ernie Kent era. He owned the glass, which only Jordan Kent (from the above list) can say, and he could have scored more than 17 but he was so unstoppable that day the Tide defense did everything they could to slow him down and he unselfishly found time to drop in 6 dimes to his teammates for easy buckets. Literally, everything was clicking for him, and he didn't depend on a jump shot to do it. No one has put together a more impressive, well-rounded game since Luke Jackson, IMO.

Luke Jackson's 40-point game against Colorado is still the #1 performance by an Oregon player ever. I was at that game and you could just see that Colorado was throwing everything they had at him to stop him and just couldn't. Never seen such a dominant performance before or since in my life.

I would agree with this. Alex Scales and Orlando Williams had games where they come close, but Luke was just... unreal.

I should note that I was not yet born when Ronnie Lee was here, and I was 6 years old when Terrell Brandon was winning Pac-10 POTY. I'm sure they had their great games, too.

If i rememeber correctly, it was 28 or 30 points in a row by Jackson...anyone remembe exactly?

I want to say 29, and 31 of the final 36. But it's been years, I'm probably wrong.

If Catron is healthy, he will have no excuse not to perform well this season. Depending on the minutes he gets each game, I would expect something like 8 points and 6 rebounds a game for him.

I love Catron the person. One of my friends was a few doors down from Catron in Barnhart freshman year. Catron is a hilarious guy and a pretty talented artist. Probably one of my favorite athletes at UO.

Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of Catron's game. He's a mediocre defender and a decent, but not great rebounder (above average for his size, but not his position). Catron has tried to expand his shooting range and that experiment has failed miserably. He needs to stick with 10-12 foot jumpers and try to improve his conditioning in the offseason. Mainly, I'd like to see him work on his defense and positioning on rebounds.

I'd love nothing more than to see Catron have a great senior season, but I'm not too optimistic. I can't see him displacing Jeremy Jacob, who in my opinion, was the team's most consistent player this year.

I think Catron will be a different player in Altman's system. He was misused in Kent's system and he never could find a good role on the team since he was not tailored for Kent. I also don't think Kent was good at developing Catron's skills so that he would have a role on the team.

To score 29 straight points and bring a team back from 18 to win a game is hard not to consider as the top single-game performance ever.
