Re: Cliff
I'd like to see both him and Jefferson commit if for no other reason than it could give us a leg up on getting them again in two years after they finish their AA. If they qualify this year, I'd consider it a bonus.
Does anyone know if they are considering a year of prep school?

Re: Cliff
How can you have that kind of talent and not even be able to graduate high school? I am not sure we should even be interested in someone that can't even graduate. I can understand someone not qualifying because of testing scores but let's be real if you can't graduate high school then how are you going to handle being on your own, playing football, and keeping the grades to stay eligible in College?

Re: Cliff
Jasnwip, you would be INCREDIBLY surprised...
We have had plenty of kids who couldn't complete a grammatically correct sentence if they had guns to their heads...and they graduated!

Re: Cliff
Oregon's main competition for Cliff right now is grades.
Hopefully he qualifies and becomes a duck.

Re: Cliff
I understand. It just breaks my heart that some of these kids don't have the guidence at home to accomplish the basic things in school that will help them get into college and live productive lives. Wasted talent is a terrible thing!

So what are his chances of qualifying? 50%?

Re: Cliff
I really hope he qualifies. He would be huge. As for not qualifying...its sad to see these kids with such talent and aspirations just not be able to get it together in the class room. While the rule is the rule and it is definitely a good one, it's sad to enforce. Telling a kid he can't pursue his dream because the academic factor holds him back. As a high school student though, it can't be that hard to achieve the minimum, especially at public school (dont know where Cliff goes). But hey we dont know whats going on behind the scenes at home or school that isn't allowing him success. Hopefully he qualifies, for the ducks, but most importantly himself!

Re: Cliff
whether he qualifies or not, i'm excited about the way we went after him. it may be a gamble that other schools decided not to pursue, but if Harris does qualify, he's a top corner in this class and would be a huge get. to me, its well worth the effort to show this kid that we want him.

Re: Cliff
To be completely honest, if I was RJ and it doesn't look like I'm going to qualify or even graduate, I'd drop out as soon as possible, take the GED test, and enroll directly into CC for a Spring semester. Give him some extra time in CC to get the job done too.

Re: Cliff
I've been told by sources that sometimes kids don't qualify because they don't take school seriously early in their lives because there is essentialy nothing for them to work toward. Once they get older, some of them become D1 quality athletes and then all of a sudden they realize that they are behind in school. Not only credits, but in basic things like study habits. Some of these young men then have to scramble to get the grades/credits and to develop the basic skills in order to be successful in not only HS, but in college. It seems so very easy for us all, but to some of these kids they haven't had the advantages growing up that we did. Just take those little things into consideration. They just need motivation and sometimes that motivation comes too late in the form of a college athletic scholarship possibility.

Re: Cliff
It really is a sad situation when kids cannot qualify. I really feel for kids who just cannot get it together. It's amazing how differently people can grow up.
Cliff would be a cherry on top of this class if he qualifies. But I'm not getting my hopes up. He would be killer back with the rest of our talented, young DB's
