I have no problem with this punishment, but the fact that this can happen and Newton gets off clean is beyond ridiculous.

I bet you could find somebody off every team in the nation who is guilty of this type of stuff.

Never did understand why he left UW. Pulling down over $900,000 as the 2nd highest paid public university president plus another $350,000 sitting on a couple corporate boards. No idea what he get paid by the NCAA but I doubt it is that much. You may be right about his ethics, it would certainly explain some completely bizarre enforcement decisions which have been handed down lately.

So lesson learned, don't trade with a business that doesn't pay it's taxes and you'll be fine.

I thought the ncaa was a joke before, but under this doog they are even worse.

The NCAA is a joke, I bet if OSU was playing in the Beef O' Brady or Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl then the players would have been suspended for the bowl game...... of course even if OSU was 6-6 they would still go to a BCS bowl game. I have come to the conclusion that the NCAA doesn't care what the players do as long as the media doesn't find out about it and if the media does get ahold then they will slap the players, schools, coaches, etc. on the wrist...... it is all about money.

Quick Terrelle, just tell them you didn't know about it. If that fails, say you didn't know it was against the rules.

If OSU had been playing in the NCG game, I doubt any kind of punishment would have been handed out. To say the players had no education of the rules is like saying they've never been coached in college. College players get told of what they can and can't do by the coaching staff and compliance office all the time so ignorance is a poor excuse.

Of course they are not going to suspend them for the bowl game. Who wants to pay X amount of dollars to watch tOSU play without 3 of there biggest attractions. Like someone said above it’s all about money and that’s all it’s about for the NCAA. Sure this eliminates Pryor from the Heisman race next year, if he comes back now. Is it really going to hurt his draft stock or the other two...Not likely. IMO yes they should of been suspended for the bowl game, but to take it another level, why suspend them for the first 5 games when 4 out of the five most HS teams could compete with. Why not suspend them for the first 5 conference games. If you want to make a point do it. This isn’t even a slap on the wrist, it’s more of a arm around the shoulder say’n, lets hope this goes away, your place or mine for Sunday dinner.
Someone also said you could find someone guilty of this type of thing at any school across the nation and I completely agree with that assumption. Although this was a rule violation and I don’t think the punishment was enough. I also realize that this type of “bartering” could be going on at UofO so I don’t feel my school is better than any other. As for the excuse that the athlete wasn’t educated enough on the rules is a bunch of BS. 10,15,20 years ago maybe, but now days hell no. How hard is it to remember you don’t get any free stuff while you are in school from anyone.

Typical NCAA bunk. I don't understand why selling their rings that they earned is a violation. They earned it so why is it against the rules? Even selling their jerseys, who cares? I can go to espnstore right now and buy Posey or Pryor's jersey. So hypocritical. They can't profit from their notoriety but the NCAA can make billions. I'm not saying they should be paid but who gives a crap if they sell their own jerseys/pants/rings/other memorabilia? It's their property last time I checked.

I agree with you, but I think the trouble begins when it comes to assessing the values of these goods. Certain boosters would "purchase" these goods for ridiculous prices. This is stuff they can sell once they graduate, but while they are playing it can lead to large cash payments for arbitrary items of little to no value.

NCAA rules are the rules no matter how unfair or screwed up the are.
I definitely agree they need to change but why allow group of college players to get away with it and everyone else has to abide by them.
