Carolina was going to auction that pick off anyways. It's been reported that Carolina doesn't want to invest the money into the #1 pick and hire a new head coach with the threat of a lock out year looming.

Standford shows that they have 29 seniors on this team.....7 offensive lineman and their starting FB.

I don't think that group was recruited by Jim though.... and he's brought in a lot of talent the past 3 yrs

I'm pretty sure that earlier this week, the Panthers owner said that if Luck came out, then he would be the pick.

It's still hard to say what Jimmy Clausen will become. He looked pretty bad at times this year, but he also had one of the worst olines in the NFL. On top of that, the skill position players were injured a lot this year.

Tom Brady would struggle with the sloths on the Panthers roster around him.

As good as Luck is, I'm glad for him that he won't be here in Charlotte. This team is a disaster. That won't change with the addition of a QB only.

Rumors out that Miami offered 8mil per year and Harbaugh accepted. If true, does Luck reconsider? Who gets the Furd job? Should be an interesting shake up.

I hope Stanford goes after Ty Willingham.

If true, and my understanding of the rule is correct, Miami would definitely not be in Rooney Rule compliance. Don't believe they can make an employment offer without minority interviews.

Look for Stanford to contend for the National title next season, although that might be tougher if Harbaugh goes to the NFL.

Possibly. I think if they are able to retain Harbaugh that the stadium will fill up. Stanford, even when they won the Pac 10 with TW back in 2000?, didn't have the type of buzz they have now and for good reason. The Pac 12 TV Deal/Network should provide enough extra revenue and even if it was only 4-5 million a year, JH is able to stay in his hometown. Certainly the Stanford Alumni have as deep as pockets as any institution in the world. He could also come back for 1 year and see if the niners tank a whole season to get the pair...

The Rooney Rule, while well-intentioned, only leads to more tokenism. Harbaugh is just about everybody's #1 choice right now and its absurd to me that if a team were to get him, that they would also need to make a facetious minority interview.

Agree with the absurdity of it's practical application in this instance

This is such a odd choice for Luck and his family. The future NFL negotiations are going to include a rookie cap, for obvious reasons, they can not continue to pay the type of money they have for unproven talent! Andrew Luck is guaranteed to make a 50 million signing bonus and what ever amount over 4-5 years...how do you turn that down? What degree will he get by next year guarantees equal to or more than that? He will be the number one over all pick you can not do more, he can only equal so there is no gain here! AND he can finish his degree anytime he wants with no distraction (football) after his career is over or during the lock out if there is one.

Who else is getting tired of these horrible decisions by these athletes and their families?

The CBA ends after the Super Bowl. The draft will go on, but I doubt very much that DaQuan Bowers (or Luck had he gone) will be getting that kind of money any more since owners can wait until the new cba is signed before they sign rookie deals since they will have that players rights for a year as it is. Luck comes from a family with money, his dad Oliver was an nfl qb. There is more to life to some people than money and being drafted #1 means you go to a garbage franchise with limited chances of success. Carolina has 2 stud rbs, no real wrs or tes, no real line and needs to revamp their defense.
