Now, do we have to start worrying about Chris Harper?

Frankly I don't see the sense in worrying about Harper. He came to Oregon to play QB and now the kid fully realizes that isn't going to happen. He's one heck of an athlete, but unless they can find an ideal spot for him on the field that can utilize his talents, then I really don't care if he leaves. If he can't really help us be better (and that isn't going to happen at QB and I have my doubts about him at receiver as well), then he's not going to be happy and he's better off moving on.

With Masoli, Thomas, Roper, Costa, etc, I never expected Harper to be a qb and I don't really think we brought him in to be a qb. He should be flexible and play another position where he can still shine.

Unless Chris Harper makes tremendous strides in his throwing game, I just don't see him as a regular option for most teams' QB rotation. The thing that he needs to consider as well, is that, if he chooses to transfer (Which I seriously doubt), he will either need to wait until after next season, or lose a year of eligibility to go someplace else.

IMO, that would not benefit anyone.

Chris Harper transferring rumors need to go away. He's enrolled, practicing, what more do we need him to do?

And how many times need we discuss it on this board? How many times does Chris himself have to say it's nonsense?

Can we let it die already?

GoDucksIn09 wrote:This still reminds me closely of the Tajh Boyd situation. He said all along up to the Clemson thing that we were the lead. I don't think LSU has even offered him a scholarship. I know am being skeptical but still because of the influence of his father.. and what he wants... i still see him going to Miami. I agree with those who point out that family sometimes are more concerned about distance than they are about where their kid wants to play. I have always felt family important.. but family will always be family.. no matter where the kid goes to school. Does anyone know if Chip Kelly has been in contact with Bryce.. or has Bryce talked with him lately. Just a curious question.
Chip Kelly had been in contact with Brown during the process and was spoken highly of. Brown has also said recently that he asked coaches to stop contacting him while he is making his decision. He said coaches have not been honoring that. He didn't specify which coaches. So, not sure if Kelly has just been keeping his distance now or what.

I agree that it is similar to the Boyd situation. I actually think that is a good thing. We had Boyd at heart and that is what is most important. Because Boyd was swayed by his parents doesn't mean the same thing will happen this time. Brown is sticking to his guns about an announcement date, despite lots of pressure from all sides. Maybe that means he will stick to his guns and go with his heart to Oregon.

As far as Chris Harper goes, I think he could be a great asset in a number of ways. I also think it's way early to rule him out as a QB. He had a shoulder injury that threw him off last year. Also, the kid was a freshman in a new, complex offense. Dixon didn't really hit his stride until his senior season. I think Harper still has upside taking snaps. Just has to learn some things and hopefully get past the injury. We all know how quickly we can move down the depth chart at QB due to mid-season injuries too. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back there again situationally. Between running, catching and throwing, he offers Kelly a lot of x-factor options in surprise sets. Also, remember that it worked pretty well in red-zone situations between him and Blount, just running mis-direction.

Sorry for the ramble. Could have written that better. But, I've been awake for over 48 hours (sick kid)...

It's been said that Chip told him that when he wanted to talk that Bryce should call him. He's stopped calling Bryce & I guess it's really been a hit with him.

yea, Thats right. Chip wouldn't call him to stir things up, Im sure he told Brown to feel free to call him whenever he want to, he will be glad talk to Brown about anything outside football.

I believe Brown did mention about that ^^ in few articles. Its probably Miami/UT bugging him maybe K.state too.

As of a couple weeks ago the most reliable source in the world had mentioned he was not initiating contact, but that his phone was ringing most every other day, with a call from a RB from Kansas.
This coupled with Miami basically pulling the offer which must have some merit at this point, should put us in the driver's seat unless Lane Kiffin talks it up or LSU blows him away.
