The biggest concern should be running back. Oregon needs two with as much as they run the ball. I hope James is as good as they claim. But after next year looks like big trouble. They really needed a couple of good prospects in this class. With a couple you get much better odds someone will step up.

How can you guys think this isnt a big deal, now that he chose Clemson? Once again we lost another high profile recruit from the east coast who fit our system better than any other... We have an average class this year and will finish in the middle of the pac in recruiting, that doesnt spell BCS games or national championships to me. We need to build a roster with solid depth and get these high profile kids if we want to take the next step. Heres a list of the recent army all american mvps and i would say this is a major loss.

I agree this is a big deal, but, the Ducks have several guys that can play at level to get to a BCS game. Thomas looks like he could be great in a couple of years. So, i think RB is the biggest concern and then WR. This recruiting class is marginal so far. They really need a couple of four/five star level running backs and receivers. I have seen several national analyst say they are surprised the ducks aren't doing better and i agree. Something seems off this year. I hope for a really strong finish

In 2010, I like the looks of Jacoby Walker, out of Spring, Texas... 6'2/190/4.6.

Seems to be somewhat in the Dennis Dixon/Darron Thomas mould.

Jake Heaps, out of Skyline HS, in Issaquah, Washington is a high rated (5 star) QB from the sandbox next door, but I am not sure the Ducks are even on his radar...

4 Star Terrence Broadway of Louisiana, 6-1/200/4.56 , currently is showing some interest, as is 6'2/210lb, Marquel Carter, of Cukver City California, and 6'5/200 Trevor Brown, of Provo Utah.

We didn't need a QB specifically in this class but it would have made next year not so pressing. Next year it is a must that the coaches bring in another QB. Actually I think they we are going to need maybe 3 QBs total in the next 2 classes to maintain a good depth chart. It puts an onus on the coaches next year to find a tough, highly-ranked QB that can back-up Masoli and and Thomas in the future. This offense requires a steady supply of QBs since for some reason they always seem to get hurt.

As far as RB, I really do think Oregon needs to get a RB in this class. After this year, we'll only have Alston and James on the roster. It would be better if the Ducks had at least 5 RBs on the roster at any one time since our offense is so heavily dependent on the run and you never know when an injury or 2 might ruin the depth chart. Plus, we only have one bruising tailback (Blount) while the rest are scatback-type RBs that usually aren't very durable. We need to add at least one bruising RB in the next 2 years. It would've been nice to get one this year so they can learn the offense and take over for Blount after he leaves immediately. I really don't think we should count of Brown to be that answer.

Maybe next year, we get a JC running back like Blount who can step in and make an impact immediately.

They need two really good backs. Their best years are when they have two backs. Morris/Smith Stewart/Johnson Johnson/Blount maybe Blount and Harper/James. I don't think Crenshaw or Alston are quite there.

Alston and Crenshaw are good back-up RBs. Alston is the one that may be able to be a starter but he hasn't shown enough for me to believe this. James seems like he could but I worry about his size and durability to handle the amount of carries we expect from our offense. We really do need a big tailback like a Blount or J-Stew to run our offense efficiently.

I hate to break it to you all but 'distance' for our Ducks will always be factor whether its in CA or the East Coast...

Losing Boyd does suck but come on guys he wouldn't be used until his RS/SO year away (unless JM totally falls apart...not very likely) and while it would be great to stock pile QBs you can only play one of them. Stockpiling at other positions is far more important!

At RB I see us using, if we don't sign BB, a combination of LGB/Harper/Alston/LMJ and a sprinkling of Crenshaw. LGB needs a complimentary player or scat-back to be successful and Alston and LMJ will get that job and the hot back of the two will get the carries. Harper will get about 5plus carries a game to see what he can do as well as used at WR. With Crenshaw being the forgotten or seldom used back. While not as dynamic as the last couple of years these guys will do well enough for us.
