Wow, what can I say?
My apologies to Bud and other LSU fans on this forum, because you guys are really great to have around... but wow. I guess it's just a cultural difference. Up here, I don't see how Chip Kelly would ever condone any of our players brawling with anyone, regardless of whether someone deserved it. I refuse to believe that JJ and his guys couldn't have just vacated the scene before things escalated into a brawl. Maybe Les Miles knows something we don't and maybe JJ really wasn't involved... maybe he left before the fight started? But some football players were involved in this fight, and none have been suspended yet, and that just seems completely outlandish to me.
The media here would be relentlessly pursuing this story and calling for Les Miles' head on a platter. And there would be daily stories echoing the media-manufactured outcry every day for about three weeks.
If Les Miles is willing to play JJ, then the police had better not issue an arrest warrant for him after the game. If that happens, shame on LSU.
I really hope Les Miles is doing the right thing, but until -someone- is punished I'm just having a hard time believing it.

"I heard that he meant to leave at 12:00 but due to poor clock management keep him there well past 2:00"

I agree…and honestly I defend them and want to believe that JJ was not involved or there is some fact that we are unaware of because I as a LSU fan will be embarrassed by my team for the first time if JJ plays and is found guilty of second degree battery.

Some people have major problems with it…others say it has been a tradition spanning multiple coaches for the kids to break curfew the last night of fall camp. Either way you cut I really don’t see any program suspending their players for breaking curfew alone, that kind of thing is normally taken care of with extra running or loss of some privilege.
This situation is unique because a fight occurred…the rub is no one outside of the team and the “victims” know what went down. If the guys are suspended and then later found just to have been separating or defending their teammates, then what? The fact that Les has not officially suspended someone tells me there is a very good reason that the facts keep changing in this case, and that is the initial reports are FAR from the truth.
But i'm pretty big homer and my opinions should be taken as such.
Just the differences with coaches. I thought that Chip overreacted when LeGarrette Blount had his altercation in Boise State since we found out a few days later that the n-word was used against LGB by the Boise fans, etc. but that's the way he rolls. I truly believe if one of our leaders broke curfew & took a bunch to a bar, irregardless of the brawl, someone would be suspended at least for a game even before all the facts were sorted out because they broke curfew - discussion over. Les does things his way & that's okay. I wouldn't want to piss Chip off and God forbid you lie to him (as Masoli found out).

Yeah... I have to admit, news like this makes the evil part of me wish that Chip Kelly would just say, "You know what? Screw doing the right thing. Cliffy, you're in!" But the simple fact is that Cliff Harris did NOT win the day! And man, I respect CK for taking one of his best players off the field in order to do the right thing. Obviously that's not something every coach has the balls to do.

Well, about the fight ...
Matt Simms was kicked off the team after the Rob Beard incident. Beard's sat out the game against New Mexico but the full team punishment was never officially announced. That was for a fourth degree assault charge (in a fight he lost, and landed in the hospital in critical condition over).
Football-wise, I'm not sure whether the delay in this situation helps or hurts LSU. I think I would want to know who my starting quarterback is ... The game is, like, 11 days from now. Start preparing the backup or take a gamble on JJ being clean, I guess.

Lee has played at important times last year, he is not a typical backup. He is also taking snaps with the ones…it has dawn on me that Les is the Mad Hatter and perhaps he just doesn’t want to officially announce who is starting until last minute…sounds crazy but it is Les.

That thought crossed my mind too, this could just be some gamesmanship.
I also don't think losing JJ would be a huge blow. I'm predicting this will be a very ugly game, which will be decided either by LSU's dominant D-line play versus Oregon's ability to break loose a couple of home runs on offense. I honestly don't think LSU's QB needs to do too much one way or another, as long as he doesn't commit many turnovers.

In case anyone was wondering what JJ is putting up with right now… the fact people are so ill makes me really second guess my thoughts of humanity. Some of these peeps make Oregonlive posters look like gentlemen and scholars.

And there is LSU's
I would like to take this time to thank the media for playing up the good marine Samaritan angle because it sounded good, and never coming back to say that the marine actually may have sucker punched a player and started all of this…not to mention he has a rap sheet that includes theft and drugs…thank you media. Thank you.

I don't think JJ starts or even plays in the UO game. JMO.
Also, I think it's ridiculous (albeit expected) that the case has been tried in the media without evidence being presented from both sides, and Jefferson has pretty much already been convicted in the court of public opinion.
The initial reports are still the ones being tossed around on message boards, and even 'news' reports, radio shows, et al. Yet it has already been proven that in most cases, those initial reports were either false or at the least HIGHLY embellished.
For instance...the curfew issue. Even the SID and AD have come out and explained that it is a long standing tradition for the players to break curfew on the last day of fall camp. It is equivalent to a senior 'skip day' in high school. There was no practice the next day, and it was well known the players were going to 'skip'. Yet all we read/hear etc is that at the very least, they broke curfew. Well, yeah...they did...just like every other LSU team has done in the past umpteen years. Big deal.
Marine: Initial reports were that this individual was a Marine 'on leave' from duty. (nevermind he's never served a minute of active duty other than boot camp) He was simply passing by, witnessed the whole team 'pummeling a guy that simply innocently honked his horn so he could get by', and ran to the rescue of this 'innocent victim'...in 'good samaritan' fashion. Also, it was reported that he knew NONE of the victims he was 'selflessly defending'.
Well, that theory has more holes in it than swiss cheese, since in fact, the Marine was the first to fight...was IN the bar when he did it...and knew every single one of the guys in the truck. So much so that he was actually kicked out of the bar, and there is video to prove he was in it, and why he was kicked out. He has a pretty long rap sheet, too...and mugshots are available. But nevermind that. It's as if he was standing outside across the street from the bar in his dress blues saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
If you dare to venture to JJ's FB fan page, or even the LSU FB fan page, you will see some of the crudest, vilest, most threatening language you'll even read...all aimed directly at Jordan Jefferson...primarily because he (allegedly) kicked "an American HERO". These idiots don't even attempt to print their threats (and yes, there are threats on his life) anonymously. They're stupid enough to use their actual names before they threaten his life. I imagine many of them will receive a knock on the door in days to come.
I'm a vet, and I am patriotic. That said, I'm more embarassed to be associated with the US Military right now than I am the LSU Tigers. I know that this 'Marine' isn't representative of the entire US Military, and I know the idiots posting threatening or racist messages on these pages aren't representative of the US Military. But the fact that people are willing to do this without fear of incrimination and without regard for the entire story is sad to me.
Earlier in this thread, I read a couple posts attesting Miles should suspend Jefferson. As I stated, I think he will. But I don't know if he should. I don't know if Jordan Jefferson threw a single punch. I don't know if he kicked anyone. I don't know that he didn't pull his teammates away from the fight and try to get them to leave the situation.
Neither does the public. Neither does any of us.
If it's found that Jefferson did any of the above, I would not only hope, but would actually EXPECT Miles suspends Jefferson. Not just for the Oregon game, but for the season...depending on his involvement. However, I happen to believe it is another LSU Tiger that will be the one that gets suspended for his involvement in this. I happen to believe it's because his involvement warrants it. Again, I don't know if Jefferson's actions do or don't warrant it, but I don't think he's the main perp here.
We shall see...

1080TheFan actually made a pretty good point the last couple days.
Remember last season how basically every Ducks fan was pulling for Auburn to make it to the NC game so the Ducks could face a SEC team? And how nobody would care if the Ducks beat Boise St or TCU?
1080 even did a poll last year of what you would rather have:
A NT vs TCU
Or the chance to play Auburn
The overwhelming majority pick the chance to play Auburn. Why? Because we wanted to play the best.
This is just like that again. Let LSU have their best players(and hopefully they really are innocent). We want them to play. We want to beat them at their best, no excuses.

For the most part I'm just going to wait around until something totally official is announced....If we went by media reports then LMJ choked his girlfriend, Masoli had a torn knee, Ohio St players all got cars for free, Dillon Baxter was given gifts by an agent(a golf cart ride) and on and on....The media just jump on a story nowadays because they want to be the first to report it and Facts be damned as long as their story hits the internet 5 minutes before anyone else

Et Al means and others for you non-Latin speaking folks.
I gots me a little man crush on Fishhead after reading that…well said my friend.
This whole scenario shows what I think is BIG problem with our country right now, and that is once the media reports it..its TRUE and no new evidence that surfaces will change the facts that the initial knee jerk reports. It is absolutely absurd that I man is guilty in the eyes of fools just because it has been reported that he may have been involved in an something before a reasonable amount of time has lapse to gather the facts.

Well, at least Randall Mackey from Ole Miss has now done his part to try & take the spotlight off of LSU by getting arrested after a fight.
