Count me in for not worrying about this skill position vs. that skill position being recruited. That being said, it would have been nice to get DW.
Yeah....exactly. How many highly rated 4 and 5 star guys have we had wash out at receiver?? Remember how dominate these 4* receivers were at Oregon? Yeah...I don't either.

This list is probably a LOT longer, just the ones I could think of that were more recent. Then you get guys like Pflugrad, Mahel, etc. that are 2* prospects and end up being solid contributors.
IMO Williams is probably the only "sure thing" WR that we missed on in this class.

I wasn't too impress with Williams reps at WR during the UA game. He doesn't look like he has breakaway speed, elite acceleration, or fluid change of direction. But he does have excellent size and frame and could be a huge red zone and jump ball/ box out threat. There was only one recruit we had a shot at that blew me away and I think will tear it up in college was Waddle. Man...that kid reminds me of a WR version of Dat. He blew by all the top CB prospects with ease during his reps.

Fair concerns regardless of who we actually signed.
BTW, outside Shough, has Arroyo brought in anybody in the past year? I know he's had some Texas kids commit, but they de-committed, and I know the staff shares some of these recruiting responsibilities. But who am I missing that we can absolutely attribute to Arroyo? I can't remember if he was responsible for any of the kids we got last year.
That is an excellent take.
The staff got taken to the woosdshed.
Extremely lucky to get Crocker and Tucker after getting played.

Still, the no. 15 class... not bad. And I'm glad this coaching staff got the offensive line it clearly wanted. Let's see what MC's vision looks like.

One of the reason that happen could be that the oregon staff honors the recruits that commit or silently commit and stops actively recruiting ppl at that position when its full. Where as some other scools will continue to trip and get recruits at that position even when its full and then turn away the ones they dont want during signing day.
Im also not impressed with arroyo so far, who got a huge bump in salary for what? (Was it something like 100% increase or similar percentage to what levitt got?) Wasnt it for stability and coaching continuity, so that we could still get harrison and williams? It definitely was not for the playcalling ability that we saw in the vegas bowl. He did get shough n webb to recommit, but with that that type of salary hike without improved performance on the field, expected alot better recruiting results from him. Only other logical reason i can think of was that slick wanted to take him to fsu so we had to pay big?

From the man himself on the number they took.
In the 2019 class you'll be able to bring in official visits in the spring. What kind of wrinkle will that be?
Cristobal: It’s tough to say, just like the early signing period, no one really knew what it brought until we went through one cycle. We’re going to have to go through 10 cycles before we know everything about it. Important thing to know, too, is there is a roster management aspect to this whole thing. For example, this 2018 class, on paper it says you could sign 28, 29 guys. You can do so but you’ve got to keep in mind we only have 8-9 seniors next year, which means you don’t many scholarships to give. Whatever you go over on this year you’re robbing yourself on the other side for the 2019 class. We’re trying to maintain a scholarship cap where next year’s class could be a really large and really talented class because it will be our first full year together with the processes that we’re instilling, which are pretty significantly different. What we did at the University of Alabama and what we brought now to Oregon and what we’re implementing now as to what we did the last year.

Has there been a hire as to the new director of recruiting/personnel?

I'm not sure, but they did bring back Davell Winters in some capacity after he spent a year at Pitt.
David Kelley was good at his job. Jim Fisher was not. Kelley is now WRs coach with Willie.
Kelley should be investigated for tampering. I'm the one on twitter who spotted him following all the Florida State star players and recruits, the night before we found out Willie was definitely leaving. Journos went ahead and ran with the info. But no one bothered to see why Kelley was talking to Derwin James, the FSU star safety that declared for the draft. The reason he would communicate with him is to try to see if he wanted to stay for one more year, to see about him holding off on the NFL draft. Kelley was still an Oregon employee, talking to a player from another school, which is a violation. He's now the WR coach at FSU, and the NCAA will never punish anyone, so I suppose it's moot now.

So slimey. He's always had that reputation...no wonder him and Willie get along.

David Kelly was fired at UCF (pre Willie) after NCAA allegations of ethical misconduct.

I don't agree, I guess. I liked what Cristobal had to say about next year's class being so light and needing to save some scholarships for next year. Grad transfers make a lot of sense in that case, to make the classes more equal, and give the team room to take the best players they can every year, instead of loading up on bottom-of-the-barrel type guys. It's a bummer that they missed on all the Taggart decommits, but I thought they did a great job of getting three other guys in the last month. It wasn't luck, they worked hard to land them. I think JHop got a lot of you hyped up, saying that everyone and their cousin was still coming, but it wasn't ever true. None of the four or five (including Waddle) receivers in question ever committed to the ducks after Taggart left. How is that the new staff's fault? I think the people listening to JHop were the ones who got played. He made some bad guesses, and you all bought it. Nobody else thought all those guys were coming to Oregon, we just hoped a few of them would. We lost a recruiting battle to USC, UCLA, Florida State, and a couple of SEC teams. It happens. Most of those schools lost battles to Oregon this year as well.
The holes in the roster that took several years to create can't be totally fixed in one class. The new staff got three receivers and five defensive backs, including some four stars in each group. I think that's a pretty good haul, all things considered. Next year, I expect the rest of the holes to be filled.

I wrote and deleted the same thoughts a few times. Eventually opting against the post because the very strongly negative opinions of the disheartened crew. I just didn’t want to deal with blow back because I disagree with someone. Thanks for posting this!

Yeah, as some have probably noticed, I don't mind a little blow back.
