Bud I can tell you I don't care what LSU does or doesn't do, I'm only interested in what happens on the field. To many people think they need to tell others how to conduct themselves daily or how to control their players, which in my mind is BS. Worry about what you can control, and let others do their own thing. No one is perfect and no one does the right thing 100% of the time, but yet when it comes to others business some (mostly haters) think they need to be all up in it. I'm sure Miles has them doing stuff already like running extra or whatever that we don't know about, and the situation is under control.

Fair enough BMD…I was just wondering. I like to know what outsiders think, hence why I’m here. :D

I've seen enough bs from other fan bases jumping to conclusions on what should happen to us based on misinformation by the media that I don't think we should be doing the same. I could go to a UGA board and they had a thread on why UO should get punished and how our players are thugs, all thanks to the media just only showing half truths.

How did Kelly handle the LMJ situation?

The whole LMJ/arrest situation was kinda convoluted...

IIRC... CK didnt suspend LMJ right away (and took a lot of flack for it from the local guys) and waited until he had all the info.

LMJ couldnt go on campus due to the restraining order (1000 ft??! Victim was a student).

LMJ had charges reduced, plead guilty to harassment, received 24 months probation and 10 days in jail. Was released due to overcrowding, wore ankle monitor for remainder of sentence.

CK suspends LMJ for one game, the opener vs New Mex St.

Im sure I missed something in there... this was off the top of my dome...

I think CK had a bit of a luxury here, because there wasn't a game coming right up when this happened... he could afford to wait.

Les Miles doesn't have that luxury, but if he knows any of his players hit or kicked anyone for any reason other than actual self defense, then they should sit for a game.

The media completely got it wrong with how they handles the LMJ situation, and it sounds like the media response to the LSU situation was overblown too... but CK still got it right by sitting LMJ for a game. He didn't have to be physical with his girlfriend... he should have just called police. On the same note, these LSU guys should have just left the bar, not hung around to brawl.

Oh, so he did pretty much what Les is doing?
CK suspends LMJ for one game, the opener vs New Mex St.
So the punishment was made after the plea deal and not the arrest?
CK suspends LMJ for one game, the opener vs New Mex St.
Which goes back to WHY did we have to schedule this as game 1

I’ve heard two stories…(1) they were leaving and the guys in the truck stopped them, apparently they were the friends of the good Samaritan marine and were well aware that the guy had issues with the players that night and (2) the marine caught them as they were leaving and started another argument. All speculation….just like the stuff the news is reporting.

I have not heard one report (via media or rumor mill) that the players “hanging around to brawl”

Yes... punishment was made after the legal proceedings were over. But like was mentioned above, all this happened in the off season so CK had some time to wait.

The question the local media had was why CK didnt automatically suspend LMJ indefinitely and then figure out what happened and go from there. CK waited, but in truth there was really nothing to suspend him from since it was the off season. Semantics I guess.

Be it LSU or another program, I am NOT a fan of disciplining an athlete because of rumors and speculation. If you have proof that is one thing, but in the absence of proof the benefit of the doubt has to be given to the player. Just my opinion. Example...the Duke fiasco every last one of those kids ended up being punished over NOTHING

Also, I do NOT think a coach should bend to the will of the media or the fan base at the college or pro level.

Well there's obviously proof that at least one LSU football player hit someone. I doubt that guy beat himself up. So seems like someone needs to be suspended...

And if that player was only defending himself? What if there was a non-player 3rd party fighter that shares some responsibility?

The point is we don't know...so why suspend over what we "think" we know?

Exactly. And CK was proven to be right once the facts were public. The original story/what was reported and what actually happened were fairly different...

From another site...
Witness to brawl on WWL this am

A Penn St undergrad getting his masters at LSU was 20 ft from the incident and saw the entire episode unfold. He said he doesn't have a dog in the fight and doesn't even follow fb....so maybe he's the unbiased witness police are looking for and will give his statement to police tomorrow.

FWIW he said the driver of the vehicle was more the instigator trying to get his vehicle out of a bad situation. Said JJ was a bystander and peacemaker more than anything. Did not recognize any of the involved until he saw news reports. Bob Delgiorno cut him off and would not let him proceed until he talked to police.
