After watching the Rose bowl I think the Ducks need help on the whole O line.

Obviously it was all the sacks -- counted, unlike the NFL, as negative rushing, rather than passing, yards -- that makes that stat especially ridiculous.StevensTechU wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 8:01 am-23 rushing yards. Not sure about the Diva tag, however he is making the same mistake Dante made when he went to UCLA, was completely embarrassed, then decided that maybe he should have sat a year after all. I get it, can only imagine everyone telling you how good you are for years so he truly believes he is good enough to start as a true freshman. He will learn what a mistake that is quickly.OregonFan4Life wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 3:07 pm lol hilarious quote by Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele:

What a diva! Glad we dodged this bullet.

STU, I love your opinions. I think you have measured, thoughtful & educated takes and a deep knowledge about football that brings a lot to this board. I’m just a fan so for me to have posters on here like you gives me opinions to consider and helps me make sense of the progrum I love.
To be fair, you said in a previous post you think QB11 is overly critical of the secondary play.
Well, unless we clone the late 80’s/early 90’s Redskins Hogs, I don’t know that you will ever be happy with our Oline.
I also pay attention to GSchwartz, Suke, Will Ortner, Anthony Newman & Joey when he comes on The FAN on Fridays. All of them were absolutely shocked at the Oline play in the game. Our Oline more than handled the tOSU Dline in the first game. Our Oline had their way with Michigan’s Dline in Michigan and we completely neutralized Penn State’s elite Dline. For most of the year they were more than serviceable and were nominated for the Moore Award.
I fall victim to this too, but I think as Duck fans we’ve been heartbroken at the doorstep so many times that we throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Here’s the attitude I’ve seen on the board towards the Oline and how it’s morphed over the last 10 years.
2010 - 2016: “Why can’t Greatwood recruit the big guys”
2017 - 2021: “Mario can recruit big guys, but he’s such a smash mouth meathead. Why is Mirabal our Oline coach? He’s 5’2” and 140 lbs! Bring back Greatwood!”
2022: “Klemm might be halfway decent. Seems like he’s fixing Mario and Mirabal’s mistakes.”
2023 - present: “Terry sucks. Things were better under Mario & Mirabal.” (Note that Terry was highly thought of by Mario & Mirabal & the NFL. Also Cavanaugh is here to help and that guy is an absolute all-time great college Oline savant)
I think we’re being mighty hard towards the Oline based on the raw emotions of an ass-kicking by the most talented roster in College Football…that was hell-bent on leaving a wake of destruction after…their rival planted a flag in the midddle of their stadium and…all of college football questioned their manhood.

I don’t remember people saying many negative things about our OL last year.

Last year, I thought we had the best offensive line in college football and thought it was horse manure that that group didn't win the Joe Moore award. The year before, I thought the team was a top 3 unit in the country, and if you go back and watch the Georgia game you'll see that they were not an issue at all despite how outmanned we were elsewhere. The units consisting of Jake Hanson, Brady Aiello, Calvin Throckmorton, and Shane Lemieux were criminally underrated, largely due to Oregon's historical reputation as a team that schemes its way to yards rather than being able to bully you around.
This year, it was a solid but not outstanding unit. We masked our issues at right guard well. Strother was consistently ok. Harper had games that he appeared to be an NFL prospect and others that you wondered if he should be a backup, so he's a hard one to pin. It shouldnt be a shock when they did well against tOSU once but not twice.
What I've harped on the last four or so years is being unhappy about the OL recruitment, and we're seeing the end results now, having to look for transfers to plug in holes created by not getting guys that are the same quality as those they're replacing. Lanning and crew have ratcheted up recruitment on the defensive line, but I do think OL has slipped. That said, it's gotten better in the last two classes, but unless you get a Penei Sewell, you've already missed the boat since the young guys need time to mature.

I’m totally & shamelessly stealing “consistently ok” from you to use in my daily life.
Example:
“How’s your girlfriend’s cooking?”
Me: “Meh, consistently ok.”
lol.

I think you should tell her that some meals seem like they're NFL prospects and others maybe should be college backups.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
When has Harper ever looked NFL caliber? He was good against an average to good college DLine but he seemed to undersized when going against elite DLines.
One player that is confusing to me is Cornelius, seems like he was way better last year. Maybe it was just going against B1G DLines made him look like a worse player cause he hit his ceiling last year.

And yet, we had probably the best regular season (including conf champ game) in Oregon history. We beat 4 top 15 teams.

Yeah, and I will never bag on Harper. Dude came in as a freshman, from Chicago, saw nothing of the field his first couple years. Was steadfast, never entered the portal but could have. Kept progressing. Stayed a duck. Will always hold players that gutted it out, and persevered and remained at UO, as my favorites in this day and age.

I wasn’t trying to brag on Harper, I was just surprised to see Stu refer to him as NFL caliber at times. He had a great work ethic and technique he just seemed to small to be NFL caliber.Everythingsducky wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 7:09 pm Yeah, and I will never bag on Harper.
