Funny, but makes some sense. I don’t think it affects Lanning, though. The Okie coach seems young enough, and he handed it to the Ducks. Lanning, which seemed to be his strong suit, needs to look outside the box. Go get experienced help. Help himself, cuz he definitely needs it. He needs someone to tell him it is freaking stupid to go for it on his own 33, with plenty of time, and three timeouts on 4th and 8. Lanning needs someone that isn’t afraid to call him out. These friendly hires would never question a call he makes, as idiotic as they may be, trying to keep their respected jobs. Lanning needs someone that WILL call him out, but maybe he is afraid of that. Maybe he just wants to hire ‘yes’ men, which would probably end up being his undoing.

I like how likeable Lanning is to his players. He seems genuine, likes his players, his players like him. Now, let’s compare recent championship coaches. I’d like to know, if Cignetti, Day, Saban, Smart, Sweeney, etc., were considered more as friends, or mentors. Should you coach more as a parent, or more as a friend. Past outcomes show that these coaches were more nonsense averse. I get Lanning wanting to be an inviting friend, but these other coaches have a history of lighting up players for indiscretions, while Lanning is a puppy. Lanning needs to be more of a dog.

Exactly. Can we please get a grownup in the room? Lanning is young, his entire crew is young, they evidently need some vet guidance. Hopefully Mullens advises him to seek veteran help. The ship is listing aimlessly at the moment. Get some experienced crew to balance the current sh*t show.

One thing I forgot to mention is that this team looks like conditioning has been very poor. I actually know a starter on this team, someone with NFL aspirations, and he made a comment about how he hasn’t worked out all offseason and that made me concerned but I wasn’t familiar enough with football to know if that’s normal or not so I didn’t think anything of it. Just further shows this team is lacking leadership.

I want Raiola to get plenty of snaps vs. PSU. I’m hoping we see a fired up QB. I’m hoping he brings a sense of urgency. I know he is a ferocious competitor
, and I would like to see what he brings with the tools he didn’t have at Nebraska. This dude is a dog, and I want to see what he can bring. Two years in, I don’t know what to make of Dante. Decent stats, good wins, bad losses. I’d take Justin Herbert in a landslide to lead this team now, and their chances with this roster. I fully understand Dante’s mental health communications to us all, and it is appreciated. However, it makes me more worried about how unpredictable his play ensues, which makes his play just as unpredictable. Ducks need a DOG at QB.

You don't need to know anything about football to know that a person who doesn't work out for 3 months straight is going to be out of shape.

As far as football goes, a number of our past coaches (and players) have emphasized how important off-season workouts are, and that the strength coaches run those work outs.

Really hope that player's statement was somewhat hyperbolic/trollish/meant to yank your chain. Because if it's true at face value--the coaches gave a starting spot to a guy who was out of shape. Team will fall apart without accountability.

I think he was exaggerating a bit but it was when I asked him if he’s looking forward to fall camp and he said no way cause it’s so tough on his body and that’s when he mentioned that, so definitely a possibility he was exaggerating. I honestly don’t know him well so I dropped it.

I think he was exaggerating a bit but it was when I asked him if he’s looking forward to fall camp and he said no way cause it’s so tough on his body and that’s when he mentioned that, so definitely a possibility he was exaggerating. I honestly don’t know him well so I dropped it.

This type of attitude and player/s can wreak a team’s culture and leadership and contributes to what happen today and where the team is currently at. The talent and evaluation team needs to be better and get players with the mamba/honey badger mentality (regardless of star rating), rather than attracting diva, ben simmons-type players. Too many of these cancers in the locker room and we’ll start becoming like USC (post-carrol).

On another note, if we start cleaning our closet we should definitely poach some of Indiana’s staff.

Watched the Oregon State game, and very happy we don’t play them this year. They don’t have top tier talent, but they play their asses off, and played hard, and well, the last two weeks against ranked teams. I’m really missing watching a team that has heart. Money doesn’t buy that.

Yeah the Beavers would 100% beat us, and I wish Dan had half of Jamarcus Shephard’s energy, dude looks like an amazing hire. Unfortunately our coach thought he could build a Saban tree with his buddies before all of the success Saban had, and that seems to have removed a lot of the juice in this program.

Wow what a crappy game that was. All facets of the game sucked cept kicking/punting. Am I the only one that wondered if Dante was sick...or high...or both? Dakorien missed a couple catches he always catches. Running backs having a alley and running into the pile? So fn frustrating to watch. Oh well I will tune into the PSU game. At what point do we see Akili? At what point do they pull all the starters and say have a seat? Until you show some effort?

Well..........glass half full. Lanning and the entire team moved the timeline up. They decided to crap the bed in week 2 rather than wait till the playoffs. Coaching, offense, defense, special teams, coordinators, everyone, a complete team effort to embarrass themselves, the fans, and everyone who watched that abomination. Normally they win 11 games, get ranked top 5 before they show the nation, same team, different year. They just moved the clock up this year.
