I think a lot of it cuz Boise was forced to be one dimensional, passing every down their last couple drives.

What Duck team will be see next week?

Depends on if the coaches decide to show up, and put their players in the best position to be effective.

Nah, it's both. BSU has a decent shot at the playoffs.

Breathe. Week 1 is in the books.

BSU:

- picked by most everyone to be the playoff rep of the G6 - literally spent an entire offseason drawing up a game plan to try and nullify every strength and advantage Oregon possibly had.
- executed said game plan perfectly
- got the critical calls when needed (fair catch interference anyone?)

Oregon:

- made every boneheaded mistake you could make under live bullets
- with two new coordinators
- the weight of crazy expectations not seen around here in 12 seasons

All of that and Oregon still won. Had 500 yards (497). Held BSU to 274.

Ask yourself how many sustained, non short-field drives BSU had. Drives that weren’t aided by absolutely mindless Oregon penalties or mistakes. Exactly 1. The very first drive. Yet even that drive was aided by Carl Williams IV having not 1 but 2 busted coverages.

After we scored to make it 17-14 at half, was anyone really concerned? Seriously. The feeling might have been “ick” and “damn we got work to do this week”, but I doubt it was “omg we are gonna lose”.

This team is equally both experienced and young and has a lot of moving pieces that will eventually fit together.

I trust Dan.

After my crazy overreactions I have one last thing to say before postgame posters chew me out (deservedly so).

What is encouraging is that WHEN this team NEEDED to make plays, they made plays. When the passing offense NEEDED to produce and score they did. When the DLine NEEDED to generate pressure they did. When the secondary NEEDED to shut down the receivers they did (Finney, Ify, and Offord all stuck to their guys like glue, they got a miracle catch on Finney). But when this team didn’t NEED to make a play, they looked very unfocused and unmotivated. I said I wanted to see this team improve on crushing their opponents, not letting up, but today I felt both the coaching staff and players lacked that mentality that wanted to just destroy any hope Boise State had in the second half.

I think the Ducks will take care of Okie State and PSU, but unless we see some serious improvement all around, USC will kick the Ducks ass. They have been pretty strong in their two games, outside of one 4th quarter when they were up large.

This is the game we should have expected in week 1 vs BSU. Yes, it was uglier than I had hoped, but that was mostly due to self inflicted wounds. Being that we escaped with a 'W', this is the kind of reality check/wake up call that pays dividends in the weeks to come! This team is 'going to the doctor' and week 2 should see less self inflicted wounds.

It's difficult to rectify what we watched with what the stats say. Take away the horrible first game sloppiness and the score is different. I still think they wouldn't beat the spread, but taking the over in this game disregards our history with BSU.

Well...........We won. However I can safely delete this game from my library as I am fully confident I will not be rewatching this game.

My postgame conclusion is that OF4L needs to go all in….either completely lay off of…or consume a lot more of…whatever he partakes of during games

Oh yeah, and deep breaths.

It felt and looked like there was some unusual tightness during this game. Lanning is never on the officials. I can’t remember when I’ve ever seen him get after them. But today he was barking at them at least 3x that they showed on CBS.

I know “pressure is a privilege” and an “opportunity”, but as superhuman and mentally tough as they are, I’m sure every player, coach and staff member on down to the assistant to the assistant director of being an assistant equipment staffer is aware of the expectations for this team.

This team cannot live on big plays like today…the competition is too good for that in B10 play. Too many cutesy and long developing plays that will get crushed by conference defenses after week three. I didn’t see the utilization of a sustained run game that could actually support Dante even though we were supposed to have one of the most experienced units in the B10. I didn’t see any push up the middle or holes created in the line, which is going to make it very difficult to win during the meat of the season…I saw pulling linemen who were out of place or got to their blocks late, after the play had already passed them. A defense that was ok, but not creating qb pressure during the first half against an undersized offensive line and they just didn’t seem hungry or inspired on every down. On a team with so much returning talent and so much hype, the performance was underwhelming. I don’t think Mehringer is it, Hampton could develop as we saw his units buckle down during the game, but the offense was barely hanging on and if they think that every team will open up chunk plays for them in the future, they will have a disappointing season. OC should have been an outside hire, Mehringer is definitely not it…difficult to hear Lanning say that Drew called a good game, when you could see that he didn’t.

Coach L. is full of bs saying Meh called a good game.
