People said the same thing going into last season, and Oregon made it to the Supers. I trust Horton's ability to put together a ball-club, and he has established the culture at Oregon to win consistently. Plus, there will be some players that decide to go to Oregon rather than going pro.duckgrad99 wrote:If all of these guys end up signing, the ducks are in big trouble next season.

Re: Draft
i'm admittedly surprised about thomas. great hitter, of course, but he has zero power and you typically want your outfielders -- especially your corner outfielders -- to be able to put the ball in the seats a little. going to be sweating that one out. he's an important cog in the machine i didn't think was a danger to leave.
kudos to alto and jones, though. and i mean, kudos to thomas, too. i'm just selfishly hoping he puts off his dream of playing pro ball for another year.

Oregon didn't have this many players drafted last season though, did they? Besides, we ended up being in trouble. Oregon over achieved big time this season.

Re: Draft
he meant after the 2011 season, i think, when we had eight ducks drafted (anderson, boer, mccough, moen, keudell, marder, pulfer, serna) and then lost christian jones before the season started. we were pretty much written off by the college baseball community, but well-executed hortonball (pitching, defense, small ball offense) will win you a ton of games regardless of who's been lost.

Re: Draft
Yeah, that's what I meant. Horton has developed the culture to the point that losing a ton of players won't make it as painful of a transition as it is for most teams.oregontrack wrote:he meant after the 2011 season, i think, when we had eight ducks drafted (anderson, boer, mccough, moen, keudell, marder, pulfer, serna) and then lost christian jones before the season started. we were pretty much written off by the college baseball community, but well-executed hortonball (pitching, defense, small ball offense) will win you a ton of games regardless of who's been lost.

RHP Patrick Murphy signs with Blue Jays today, so he won't be showing up on campus in fall.

McFarland's already said he's signing, so he won't be getting on campus. Christie though I think does end up at school.greenyellow wrote:Didn't think he was either but he's barely eligible since his birthday is 06/03/92. Moved up 4 rounds from where he drafted out of HS. Not sure if he'll go.uosportsguy01 wrote:Didn't realize Wiper was draft eligible. Yes a surprise, though he had a lot of talent coming out of hs and the TJ surgery set him back.....
I'm surprised McFarland nor Christie have been selected, as both came in rated high. Maybe they were asking to much in signing bonus. Who knows.
As for McFarland and Christie, be kind of nice if they managed to somehow show up at Oregon.

Edited my post. So Harris, Christy, and Karaviotis. Are the pretty safe bets to stay at Oregon?

Re: Draft
You'd think, but I have no idea. Harris is son of long time MLB pitcher, maybe he sees value in signing now due to his connections, etc... I really don't know. When you get towards that bottom part of the draft, it's not life changing money, if guys sign then it's because they just really want to play baseball, so while it's easy to sit here and say "such and such should go to college", if his heart isn't in it, then who knows what he'll do.
Got till July 12th before a final answer is needed.
My guess is all 3 end up on campus.

Karaviotis would be foolish not to come to Oregon. He'll be our SS next year. Article on him when he originally committed btw:uosportsguy01 wrote:You'd think, but I have no idea.
