And if you look at conference play sim shot 24% from three and brown shot 37.5% from three...with a 41/34 assist/turnover ratio compared to sim's 28/35...with more steals and rebounds and a higher FT and FG %...It's not even close

Outside of some garbage time minutes against USC, Brown scored 6 3pointers all year in pac-10 play. Sim hit 16.pudgejeff wrote:And if you look at conference play sim shot 24% from three and brown shot 37.5% from three...with a 41/34 assist/turnover ratio compared to sim's 28/35...with more steals and rebounds and a higher FT and FG %...It's not even close
That won't work in Ernie's system, simple as that. If Brown can limit turnovers and become a more efficient PG by next season, then by all means slot him at in at the starting PG position. But I don't see that happening, therefore I'd rather sign someone like Armstead, and put him at PG, and let Sim play some backup PG/SG.

Brown still shoots awful percentages, and averaging 2 topg in 17 mpg is utterly awful. If he was a full time starter, that means he'd be turning it over about 3.5 to 4.0 times a game.
All the good things he does cancels out because of his bad decision making and his poor shooting.[/quote]
That is the KEY TK1. If you look at the games where KB played extended minutes, his stats usually become better. For example, if you take the St Marys game from 2 years ago where he was required to play almost the entire game, he looked like an all star. In most games last season (I say most, because he had 1 bad game where he had 7 TOs playing extended minutes) his stats were much better with increased time played. So, no, IMHO, the 2 TOs in 17 minutes would NOT translate to 4 TOs in 34 minutes. IMHO, KB is trying too hard to make things happen when he is out there because of the limited minutes that he plays. That is what causes him to be "careless" with the ball.
Also, What about the defense? He is very quick with his hands and usually generates a couple of steals that other players are not able to get. Did anyone notice how many more fastbreak opportunities the ducks had last season with KB on the floor? I am too lazy to look it up, but it was A LOT.
I like Sim, but there is NO way he is a Pac-10 PG. I see Sim as a SG. He is a good scorer, but too slow and not a good enough ball handler to be at the PG position right now. He was picked CLEAN a lot last season.

I got to disagree. Here are all the pac-10 games where he played 18+ minutes.
18min 4ast 3to
23min 1ast 2to
21min 2ast 3to
24min 4ast 1to
24min 3ast 1to
24min 3ast 2to
20min 1ast 3to
20min 4ast 8to
33min 3ast 3to
20min 3ast 0to
=
28ast 26to
2.8asg 2.6topg in about 23 or 24 minutes each game.
I'm still not seeing much of a different to be honest.

Don't get me wrong...I'm super excited about Armstead...He looks to be like the player we were missing last year...a guy that can create a shot not only for someone else but when needed can score himself and get us off one of those droughts at 2 min into it instead of it turning into a 6 min drought...I would just hate to lose Kam over it because I think he has by far the most skills on the team at that spot and now we have someone to hone them.

Re: Malcolm Armstead to Oregon
I for one will like to see Sim and Brown back. Porter will be back. I dont think he'll play point next year. Porter is a great shooter, but he cant handle the ball and be a great shot. And when his shots not falling, he is a defensive liability. I hated to watch games last year when Porter wouldnt score in the first half, but he'd give up 15 points to his guy. With the addition of Armstead, it will bring some stability to the point, giving Sim a little more time to develope and allow Brown to come off the bench with energy. I wouldn't mind seeing Sim red-shirt. I dont think it'll happen, but I do think it would be good for him.
The one player I wouldn't miss if he transferred would be Catron. He was such a disappointment last year. He did less for the team than Franz did. And Franz had a broken hand 90% of the season. He is only 6'6" and plays post. He turns the ball over more than our point guards and he tends to be a ball hog. He only passes when he thinks it will make the sportscenter top 10 plays. He does have some nice moves, but only when they dont mean anything. He is kind of like A-rod, great when it doesnt matter, and terrible when it does. He too is a defensive liability.
This next season I think the Ducks can be a great team. Lets hope this summer they stay together and lets hope these younger guys can develop and the older guys bring some leadership to the floor.
This is what I see our starting 5 will be if Armstead does become a Duck:
Armstead at the point
Porter the shooting guard
Longmire the small forward
Wilson the power forward and
Dunigan the Center
I'd like to see Crittle and Dunigan on the floor together more. Move Wilson to the small forward and put Longmire at the shooting guard (I know thats not his position, but he is more of a slasher that porter) and run a half court offense.
Ducks can be a contender for the pac10 title this next season.

Offers from: Arkansas, Kentucky, Washington State, Wichita State, Colorado, Fresno State, Arkansas, St. Johns, Oregon, Iowa, and Providence. Kansas and Florida were both recruiting him too.
This is what his coach said about him: "This season Armstead has meshed well with a talented team and become more of a pure point guard in leading his team to a 28-1 record."
He could be a good addition to this team. Really what this team is missing right now is a PG who can lead this team. If you look at our past successful teams, a good PG is what makes our team good. (especially in Ernie's system!)
Maybe he's not the guy, but I believe he could be the different from a 4-5 win pac-10 team to a 7-8 win pac-10 team.

Is he even official yet? Oregon needs to go after a stud point guard in this next recruiting class.

Re: Malcolm Armstead to Oregon
Not much time left for searching out a quality PG... Plus the pickings are becoming very thin.
3* JC PG, Rico Pickett (6'3/180) Is still available, but neither he, nor John Wall is showing interest in the Ducks.
Virtually every remaining HS PG other than Wall is a 2* or lower.
IMO, EK and company completely mishandled this process up to this point.
Hope the Ducks can salvage a decent option, as well as a little dignity.

Re: Malcolm Armstead to Oregon
Kentucky is actually holding him out, the way I understand it. He is their backup plan, so maybe that is part of the hold up with him not signing with Oregon. Everyone should be holding their breath right now, because if Oregon does not sign Armstead now that Brown is gone then they are probably looking at another 4 conference win season.UOducksTK1 wrote:Posted this somewhere else, but:Robstu wrote:the one guy we were missing?pudgejeff wrote:Don't get me wrong...I'm super excited about Armstead...He looks to be like the player we were missing last year...a guy that can create a shot not only for someone else but when needed can score himself and get us off one of those droughts at 2 min into it instead of it turning into a 6 min drought...I would just hate to lose Kam over it because I think he has by far the most skills on the team at that spot and now we have someone to hone them.
