Gus was brought up as a basketball play by play guy and that's his best sport IMO. He is still good at football but his basketball announcing is great.

"TOUCHDOWN MARQUISE LEEEEEEEEEEE!"

And then when we scored:

"Touchdown. Oregon."

The dude roots for upsets, that's for sure. And you can totally tell who he's rooting for. That is kind of exactly the opposite of what a national broadcaster should be.
ohh yeah, very true. Forgot about that game. He was a total USC homer for that game.
Funny. I always felt he was trying to keep as many viewers into the game as possible. If a game looks like it will turn into a blowout, but the underdog finds a way to stay in it and maybe pull out a win, that is exciting. I believe UO was a top five team and USC was ranked in the teens. If he keeps just 100k HHs watching an Oregon game by maintaining high levels of excitement, then it benefits the UO. Future players seeing Oregon as THE exciting program nationally will build the program. Being upset about him showing excitement directed at an opposing team is short-sighted.

The point being that people don't change the channel when a game is exciting. He's trying to help maintain interest levels in a game when there are many alternative games to watch. If he can keep people watching longer, the ratings are higher. High ratings for Oregon games means the program stays relevant for years to come. It's smart business for FOX Sports and honestly, he loves what he does and is genuinely excited about it. That it benefits Oregon is the cherry on top of the sundae. That's if you like cherries on the top of your sundaes.
Yeah maybe there was some homerism when USC/Oregon played, but he seems to also feed off of the crowd. He's usually more excited for the home team, whenever big plays are made.

I find his commentary to be tiring. You really can't make every play seem like the immaculate reception. He's definitely a better bball announcer than football.

I really don't know what to expect in this game. Lots of variables and questions begging to be answered. Not only for Oregon, but Utah as well.

A little worrisome: Michigan State not looking great again today, and Michigan (who Utah beat), is destroying #22 BYU.

VA still looks hurt; if he can't throw, I'd rather see Lockie.
