Hanson is the one taking 2nd string reps at center rather than Throck. Throck is more of a tackle, but I would envision moving inside if someone else takes over at tackle.

Okun got a 6 month jump start on the other OL in the class, and he's been passed by virtually all of them (Aiello seems to be strictly tackle). That could be because they're much better athletes, where as Okun just beasted people in high school because he was carrying around 320 pounds.

My bad. Got them confused. Hanson is the one they've been gushing over.
As for Okun, I was under the impression that he was packing 340+ during the spring. Just imagine if he can get down to 310 while adding some muscle. He actually appeared to move pretty well in his HS game film so it's surprising that he's still struggling. Oh well, just shows you what the star system is really worth.

Lots of career left. I'm really hopeful about all 5 as a group.

Man, I was expecting 3 pages of analysis on Herbert from people who have seen him play. oh well

Here's the skinny, StevensTech and I have both chimed in other topics. I did early analysis and flew back to Oregon to catch some games and hook up with family so I had a chance to pursue onsite diligence. That said, here's what you what we shared in other analysis. These are my takeaways:

A.) Incredible arm strength, arguably the best arm we've ever recruited.(90+mph fastball)
B.) Equal to or more accurate then MM.
C.) Career 70% completion percentage. Avg. roughly 12+ yards per throw. Only 2 Int's ever thrown (against the #1 team in the state...which went to double OT).
D.) Not as fast as MM but has good speed and runs strong.
E.) Incredible pocket awareness.
F.) Excellent with progressions.
G.) Pressure passing: Elite (makes pinpoint throws under extreme pressure with guys hanging on him.)
H.) Intangibles: Virtually every team he has played on has either won the State championship or been in the semi's (Basketball, Baseball and football)
Notables: Elite Baseball Pitcher won the state championship last year and was arguably one of the best pitchers in Oregon. Throws 90+ mph. Won state basketball championship with his brother as a sophomore, Baseball Championship as a junior, injured after a couple of games junior year, missed remainder of football and basketball seasons. Returned in time for baseball.

Conclusion: Best QB recruit I've seen us land. MM was faster but this kid has a better arm and a flat out winner in virtually everything he does. With limited experience and camp exposure I believe we landed the diamond in the rough and have MM2.0 (not as fast but great head, incredible arm). How he isn't ranked higher is just mind boggling.

Excerpt:
Plays in an offense that is similiar to ours and he sets before he throws in pocket. Throws excellent on the run. For a kid to be at 70% completions with an Oline that is sieve is impressive. He has a cannon arm that is extremely accurate. He makes throws to the appropriate shoulder which is very unique for this level of football. Watch his film it's extremely impressive. His skill is beyond Terry Wilson's and the types of throws he makes (under duress), his reads and pocket awareness are unique. Strong in the pocket and scrambling, doesn't go down easy (like Ben Rothlisberger).

FYI - There's a reason we dumped Green in favor of this unranked kid. The points shared above are the reason. Had he played 3 games last year before getting injured he would've already been in the fold. At an Oregon HS, without camp exposure, he isn't going to get more than 2-3 stars. He was completely off the radar screen of all the serious players. This kid is a winner, a top pitcher for the state champion Irish, he bypassed camp exposure to support his team in their pursuit of a championship. He plays Basketball as well and won the state championship as a sophomore (missed last season due to football injury). This kid has a winning mindset and appears to be great at almost any sport. This is what you need. This is what we need.

I've seen only one of his games, while I wouldn't say MM 2.0, that's like calling Freeman LMJ 2.0, just totally diffrent players. I do think he will be very good. Not really any duck qb to compare him to honestly, although he reminds me a lot of Paxton from Memphis, who's going to be the 1-2 qb taken this year.

Holy cow if half of what you say is true.

You wanted analysis, this is it. however, the in-person aspect is even more incredible. Matt Prehm is just about as big a fan of his game as I am. While it's tough to gleen everything from HUDL check out all of his games in 2015. There's 6 films from this season. 2 of them are quite impressive as 1 of them has him falling backward with 3 guys and throwing 40 yards for a TD.

He's throwing the ball in some games maybe 15 times for 300 yards. It's pretty wicked. Super fast release, he can flick it 30 yards on a rail.

That said, I'm kinda shocked to hear that they might be pursuing a JC QB. If that's the case he may not be enrolling early and they need to get a head start for next season with some early enrollees (Wilson and someone else). I think it might also indicate TJ's and Morgan's inability to grab the position.

I think they have all seen how bad it will be if we can't get a real QB. With VA we would be 8-1 instead of 6-3 right now and squarely in the hunt for a major bowl or the playoff. While our defense wouldn't win it for us, it still would've been nice to be in contention.

I think TJ is just a wildcard at this point given that he's been unable to practice. I'd have to imagine that the fear is that he's behind the curve ala Mahalak and it actually might take more time than it used to develop QBs for this system and we need some sort of stopgap (since even Herbert/Wilson aren't guarantees until they're on campus)

I also think Frost might be getting greedy and trying to jump ahead in experience at the QB position given the staple of talent position players in the offense. Now that he's seen that the VA experiment could have been a success if not for the injury, he might think a guy that's coming in as a junior might be able to get the job done quickly. There is something to be said about just raw development out of a guy that's two years older than a high school recruit and has seen a lot of game experience, albeit against JUCO competition.

The key, however, is getting any transfer or JC on campus in January. It's not fun watching them get acclimated in the offense in September.

Agreed. Though if the position looks real dire, I'll take 'em anytime.

Excited for Herbert.

Not all that impressed with Wilson's tape. Reminds me a lot of Damion Hobbs for some reason, which was an ill advised late signing.

We could really use some good luck at the QB position.

Rodgriguez, Lockie, Hobbs, Mahalak, Jonsen got injured, we've definitely gotten unlucky. Either that or we can't evaluate QBs well.

Inside scoop on Mahalak is more one of being a little lazy or not willing to put in the work quite yet to be a starter. I'm with you on Wilson, he's not bad but HS qb's always look good when there's no one in their face. That ability to go through progressions, throw accurately all with a collapsing pocket is what makes Herbert special. There's virtually no five star Qb's whose tape looks as good as Herbert. The other thing is watch him run. I don't think I've ever seen a QB who wants to truck people like this kid. It's almost like he's seeking contact. He's tough...
