3 stars? That guy sux.
Stars are a good indication of talent, but aren't everything. We lost to multiple teams last year filled with 3 star guys.

yes, it is true but the way we've been recruiting its going to be harder and harder for those 3 stars to find the field. Just seems with the tight scholarship count it would be better to save them, because people like powell more than likely wont play next year anyway. Id rather get a higher rated safety in the next class. But like some people said, none of us are collegiate coaches and im sure they know what they're doing. Just my two cents.

I agree with your overall point about star gazing.......but when it comes to last minute offers, those are typically 3 star guys for a reason and a lot less likely to be guys our staff found to be diamonds that no one else saw and more likely that they're decent players but probably accurately assessed overall.nogerO wrote:I can remember when a class full of 3* recruits would call for cartwheels down the halls...DuckMastaFunk wrote:Since we've been getting so many 4 and 5 star players, maybe we're staring to get "star blinders"?

I look at this a bit different. Its nice to have the 4-5 star players. But sometimes the 3 star playerlukeyrid13 wrote:I agree with your overall point about star gazing.......but when it comes to last minute offers, those are typically 3 star guys for a reason and a lot less likely to be guys our staff found to be diamonds that no one else saw and more likely that they're decent players but probably accurately assessed overall.nogerO wrote:I can remember when a class full of 3* recruits would call for cartwheels down the halls...DuckMastaFunk wrote:Since we've been getting so many 4 and 5 star players, maybe we're staring to get "star blinders"?

turns out to be better. Look at Herbert came in as a 3 star..turns out he's playing at a higher level.
Another one that comes to mind is From Hawaii won a hiesman trophy for the ducks he was a 3 star.
And we can go on.. there have been 4-5 stars that have gone the otherway. this is why i will judge
after they have been here 3-4 years . Theres a reason Mario is one of if not the best recruiters and
when he hires a staff that is a real critical trait.

I'm probably guilty of star gazing, but I wholeheartedly agree that some guys are three-stars for a reason and they're not all created equally. These are guys we can easily get because the schools recruiting them the hardest are FAU and company. Does FAU get a great player once in a while? Sure, I'd love to have had their RB Devin Singletary. But it's a percentage game.lukeyrid13 wrote:I agree with your overall point about star gazing.......but when it comes to last minute offers, those are typically 3 star guys for a reason and a lot less likely to be guys our staff found to be diamonds that no one else saw and more likely that they're decent players but probably accurately assessed overall.nogerO wrote:I can remember when a class full of 3* recruits would call for cartwheels down the halls...DuckMastaFunk wrote:Since we've been getting so many 4 and 5 star players, maybe we're staring to get "star blinders"?

Stealing Demetri Burch, Daewood Davis, Billy Gibson, is meant for roster filler. Not for doing when you have a scholarship crunch.
Obviously the coaches have a better grasp of the kid and his talent, so I'll always defer to them - but I'd rather we not stock the roster with more guys who eat up scholarships to be a warm body in practice if we don't need to.

But there is a reason they are 4 and 5 star players. Look at Bama, their roster is filled with 4 and 5 stars. Granted some three stars turn out great, whether they never attended, camps, injuries etc. But most of the time, kids are rated correctly. Especially now days with the prevalence of so many camps.duckfan22 wrote:I look at this a bit different. Its nice to have the 4-5 star players. If you haven’t even seen their tapes or offer lists, how can you call them filler guys?

Here’s the counter to your argument about these guys only being filler and not worthy of a schollie... Alabama offered 3* Edwards too.HomeSickDuck wrote:But there is a reason they are 4 and 5 star players. Look at Bama, their roster is filled with 4 and 5 stars. I don't dispute anything said. It's how I look at. It's how I always have. Most likely it's old school. I'd love to have all 4 and 5 stars. But there are also a few 3 stars that have been under the radar and should be at least 4 stars.

Its tough to differentiate non-commitable offers from commitable offers and which lower star recruit has which type of offer. I haven't followed edwards, but which type of offer Bama gave him really says if they feel he's just a "filler" or not.UofDuck wrote:Here’s the counter to your argument about these guys only being filler and not worthy of a schollie... That’s not true. I know Powell has had an offer for a while and Edwards for about a year.lukeyrid13 wrote:Cause we didn’t offer until the final week...Phenom wrote:If you haven’t even seen their tapes or offer lists, how can you call them filler guys?
JHop is reporting that Edwards will not visit, btw. Probably going to JUCO.
