He would still be behind Tuioti and competing with Jaeden Moore for rotational snaps.
This has him at the opposite OLB spot from Tuioti, where Matayo currently plays:

This is a side project of a random old guy. Oregon has a dozen OLB’s and Jordan Burch. Once Burch leaves it will just be a dozen OLB’s.

I don’t think that’s true. His playing time had gone down significantly the second half of the year. He was probably going to be 3rd string next year imho. I think he played 1 play on D in the title game. Good luck to him wherever he ends up. I think he was passed up by Moore, Purchase and Rushing

As a coach there is no way I would want a potential cancerous player dividing my locker room. I only remember one coach (can’t remember who) allowing a player to remain on the team as a contributor.
You’re a coach of a CFB program in the portal era? That’s rad. As such, I’m sure you’ve had many discussions with players on playing time and their position on the roster. Probably had to help a few out the door to open up spots too. I would think with all that experience you would be able to get the sense if a player would likely be a cancer to the team or not.
Let me rephrase that, If I was a coach! However I’m sure you got my point in the first post. It was just more important for you to be a smartass rather than having an adult conversation.
If they are jumping ship for whatever reason going into the playoffs they’re already a problem in the locker room. No different than that player for the 49er’s who walked off the field in the middle of a game because he was pissy about playing time. You may not like my opinion, but considering you don’t hear about players being available to participate once they enter the portal, it is shared by the majority of coaches across the country.

I don't think you can practice once you enter the portal; you'd have to withdraw and Oregon would have to re-accept as I understand it which is why I think Dilly has been publicly stating that he'll help guys find their next home but stay with the team until its over (which I think for him more than us is also about having quality practices).

If we were to get someone in the portal, I think they can be in meetings and team activities but they can't practice or play. If we get a HS early-enrollee I believe they CAN practice but can't play.

Yeah, those snap counts are pretty revealing. Turner and Winston with only one snap in the Big 10 Championship game, now both in the portal.

Wait, you don’t think players can stay on the team when in the portal but you’re also aware that Dillingham is allowing players in the portal to stay on the team?

Hey, we like chileduck here. I still remember him from the old educk board. I, for one, refer to that site fairly often.

Me too. I would also need to be old to remember this.

Oregon sure wasted no time getting Thieneman. Probably could pencil him in as a starter already.
