I think there is something significant going on here. Day is right - Oregon has never landed this elite level of wideout before. That NFL-body receiver that has helped win national championships for Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State. The kind of receiver that makes these middling SEC and Big Ten QB's look like Heisman winners. Imagine if Marcus or Justin had one of these guys to throw to when it counted. But these elite schools have been locking these guys down for years. The ones on the West Coast nearly always go to USC. A few accidentally made it to Washington a few years ago and look what happened - they almost won a national championship and beat Oregon three times in a row. Remember what Chad Johnson and T. J. Houshmandzadeh did for Oregon State?

Coach Lanning has made Oregon relevant not with a cool new scheme like Chip did, using small, fast players that the blue bloods didn't put as high a priority on precisely because they were not first-round talent. Instead, Lanning began in the trenches and on defense like the SEC schools he cut his teeth on. Now that he has those elements developed so well (he does still need a better OL pipeline), is he coming after these jealously-guarded elite receivers as the final missing piece of his championship run? Even if I weren't a duck fan, I would find this development fun to watch. I can imagine Ryan Day breaking into an Emperor Palpatine voice as he watches his prize receiver recruits slip through his fingers, one to USC and the other possibly to Oregon.

Hopefully CHJ and his team recognize negative recruiting as a form of personal weakness.

All the OSU fans beating this kid down while there is still a chance OSU could sign him can’t be helpful to the there recruiting staff. If someone wants to question a recruit’s decision that’s fine but to degrade, berate and beat a kid down on social media is immature, petty and USC spoiled child like.

This just exemplifies a complete lack of self-awareness from Ryan Day and the tOSU crew. CHJ is talking to Oregon because tOSU lied to and misled the player and family about what was happening with Hartline. He found out about it on Twitter. The player said it himself. But ignore that, it must be Oregon throwing the bag at him that has him reconsidering... These clowns are approaching Texas ATM fanbase levels of delusion now.

Throughout the years, whenever this happens we will wake up tomorrow morning to hear he signed with Ohio State anyway. It is what it is, we have a great class signed, and despite the Rose Bowl, I still believe Lanning is the better coach, fact is Day has like five years experience on him, so its going to take some time. I'm good with that.
Annnndddd, history repeats itself. This honestly wasn't even a shock

He officially stayed with Ohio State. Good luck to him, I’m sure he’ll be a great player and will get paid well. I also don’t understand why he’d want to go play for the fanbase that said horrible things about him and his family but to each their own.

Bummer, but man, hard to be upset when our class (and receiver room) is so freaking loaded. Best of luck to him! He's gonna need it. 8-)

This is a great point! Heck we even got Gatlin Beir returning this year, I'd forgot all about him!!!

Our receiver room will be really good going forward, but we don’t have that giant body receiver that can go get jumpballs consistently and Chris Henry Jr would’ve brought us that, so it’s a bummer we didn’t get him, but he was definitely more of a luxury than a need.

Yup Ohio State, oh well! Our WR room is insane as is. He would have been a luxury addition.

NIL is out of control. Who is going to stop #Ore... #Ohio State from offering cars, drugs, and escorts?

Yeah, looks like Bair actually makes 4 new receivers coming in. I wonder if the coaches will go after an upper-classman in the portal for balance.

Day and his negative recruiting win this round, but if Sadiq is picked first round, will that shut him up or not?
