i think that no matter who the hire is the fan base will need to
be somewhat patient. however if we get one of the best and we
pay him a ton of money then expectations will be huge. the next
problem we will have is if say we snag a Donovan and pay him
4 mil. what will we do with Chip Kelly's contract? He's not gonna settle
for being 2nd best i bet.

It is obvious Oregon is looking to become an elite program in all sports, particularly the 2 biggest (basketball and football) like the Florida's and Ohio State's. In order to do that you have to pay out the big dollars like those schools, so if the Ducks pay a ton for a big name BB coach then Kelly's contract will be renewed at a higher salary I am sure. The Ducks are already looking good in baseball for only being in it's 2nd year, Golf is #1 in the country, track and field and cross country are always highly ranked and all of the other sports are competitive. There was an article about the direction and seriousness in which the program is headed and Knight, PK and the big boosters are going to make sure Oregon gets there. Unfortunately in order to get there, politics and money are the players and there will be things us fans don't like but all of the big name programs do it and that is why they are where they are. I just hope we can get to that elite level sooner rather than later.

Of course, if the rumor on eDuck that was started yesterday had any basis in fact, all arguments about money become moot. (I have seen nothing to corroborate this, so please accept it as BS for now!)

The guy is freakin cool----he realizes he can't take it with him, and any $ he has at the end, the government is going to get most of it.

So he is going to make sure the U of O gets a sh!tload of it. Our good luck. I am going to go buy a new pair of Nikes to show my appreciation.

The $2 million for this guy or the $4 million for that guy is just not an issue. Kilkenny has a green light.

Enjoy it, FirstDuck----we are going to get someone who could turn our program into a perennial winner., a powerhouse. Ernie took us to to level #2, now we are looking a the top floor. Very exciting times."

Now there is a rumor I find hard to swallow. It would be incredibly excitiing, though!

Holy CRAP!!! That would be absolutely ridiculous! I have a feeling though that something like this will happen at some point. I believe, from what I have heard, he will set up a fund of some sort that will feed a s***-ton of money into the university for the next half-century or so, if and when Phil Knight were to become deceased. VERY Generous man.

Let the arms race begin!

I could easily see Knight giving most of his fortune to Oregon and giving the rest to charities. I don't believe he has any other children so it really has no place left to go personally except for his wife. Imagine what the UO could do with the amount of money Knight could possibly leave them.

With PK1's past history, I could see him giving substantially to Stanford, as well... At least on the academic side.

I know one other son, Travis, is/was the CEO of LAIKA, an animation studio purchased by PK in 2002.

Pretty sure there is one other child.

If that's true, the UO needs to put that in a bank account and just live off the interest. That's 30mill a year right there.

Yeah, I forgot about his son who owns an animation studio. And yes there is another but can't find any info on them. Pretty sure he has them taken care of for the rest of their lives.
