He may do good, but generally NBA coaches don't succeed at the NCAA level. That's why I would rather us get an excellent college assistant rather than a re-tread NBA coach.

I think you have that backwards. Generally college coaches don't succeed at the NBA level. NBA coaches who have gone to college have largely been phenomenal.

I like Avery Johnson, and I think it would be a great hire. That said, I'm surprised most of the people here like it. A lot of folks here spoke out against PJ because of his age, assuming he'd retire in 5-6 years. IMO, Avery Johnson would be a spectacular hire for a couple seasons, before he jumps back to the NBA, which he no doubt would.

Now that's a fair point, but that's not what was said originally. I wouldn't argue that a guy that has strictly coached in the NBA wouldn't bring some concerns, at least initially, with him. But "NBA coaches don't succeed in college" on its own is false.

when it really comes down to it, be it the nba
or college or a pickup game on the corner.
The ball is still round, the rim is a 10 feet.
The guy with the ball wants to score and the
guy guarding him doesnt want him to. what we need
is a coach that can teach both. Who says a guy in the
nba cant recruit. i think in someways it's a plus because
kids now a days dream of being in the nba. so id be fine
with Avery Johnson type of coach.

Having an ex-NBA coach would be a good selling point for recruits since they know what it takes to get up there and could impart that wisdom onto the players.
