I went to Thurston High School so it was nice watching Drew help the team to the 5A semifinals his senior year. He really grew as a player. At this level, though, he's too slow to do much more than spot up and shoot... and there's nothing wrong with being a 3 point specialist. But you need shots and minutes to do that. Going in for two and a half minutes in the first half and taking one shot, hit or miss, and sitting the rest of the game just wasn't helping anyone.
Best of luck to him. I couldn't agree more with the poster who said Wiley should have redshirted. If they ever write a book about how to blow a year of an athlete's eligibility, Wiley will be the subject matter.

I think that both him and Teondre Williams needed to RS due to not being ready to play at the Pac-10 level and being injured, respectively.

Singler made Wiley look like a player only recruited to Oregon due to him being local. He always seemed to belong at a smaller school like PSU, BSU, or UP.
ohhh so you mean maybe a local player is not as good as some people make them out to be just because they are local??

Well if Wiley was getting Singler type minutes, and vice versa, maybe Wiley would be the one making Singler look like we just picked him up because of his name. Just saying... EJ got lots of minutes early on to prove himself. Never remember Wiley getting that much playing time. The only game I remember Wiley playing a lot was against UCLA his frosh year where he tore it up.

Not when Kent was the coach.

Agreed. I'm actually in the camp that believes Wiley would've been an above average Pac-10 player had he been coached correctly. I think his ball handling skills were adequate to good for his position and could've improved to the point that he'd be very effective player in isolation. Unfortunately, past shooting an open 3, he really wasn't developed much by the coaching staff.

Mops said he might be looking to transfer to Boise State.

That's not the problem at all. The problem is we had like 10 players in one class. Obviously not all could play at the same time. and unfortunately for Wiley, he got the bitter end. And I'm pretty sure Ernie Kent just plays players randomly. I don't trust his evaluation of talent for our players. How many times did you see him take out our hottest player to kill our team's momentum? Too many times..

When Wiley was a SR at Thurston and Singler was a JR at S. Medford, I watched both at the state tourney(both 5a and 6a where at Mac), and it was very apparent that EJ was a much better player. I'm not saying Wiley can't be good but he isn't starting at UO.

Well, you're right. EJ was the 6A POTY his senior year. Wiley wasn't even his league MVP (although, I would argue, he should have shared the award with Brian Conklin instead of Markus Baker... but anyone who doesn't live in the area probably has no idea what I'm talking about). EJ was a better HS player, he'll be a better college player. He's just a better.
Wiley just needs to find a system that fits him, and a coach that will let him play.

Having seen both play in person and on film quite a bit, I'd compare Drew Wiley to Drew Viney with a slight edge to Wiley in my opinion. Viney did pretty well this year at LMU. I think Wiley has the same potential to breakout at another school.

Well I would disagree. Viney was a much better player than Wiley. You have to remember that when Viney was the UofO, he was hurt most of his time here. So how you could even compare that? Unless if your saying that a healthy Wiley is better than an injured Viney, then ya I'll agree with you there. Wiley was nothing more than Kent's attempt at finding another local player to be the next Marty Leunen. And Wiley failed!
