Sorry, but we should do better than a player who's only other offer was Northern Iowa. I never said this means a 6 win season, but you don't go after these players if you're serious about bcs or national titles. That should tell you all you need to know, regardless of stars. This guy will never see the field as a qb at Oregon, so he better be moved somewhere else.

Stars don't mean a thing. They really don't.

Obviously if you are consistently a national powerhouse recruiting machine, then you'll be a good team. But you can easily win a championship with the talent UO has. We've been one game away from a national championship appearance twice in the last 8 years (Stanford in 01 and USC in 05). And I haven't even mentioned 2 years ago with Dixon. Had he not got hurt, who knows what could have happened.

Stars don't matter, wins do.

I haven't looked through this thread really yet except some of the most recent posts. But I highly doubt this kid is being recruited as a QB. Odds are he's being looked at WR or something else...

Even if he is being looked at as a wide receiver, these are the types of guys that "lesser schools" get. Why can't we bring in the "big time" receivers?

Just to clarify, I'm not saying we're not capable of winning a national championship. I think it's a possibility next year. What I'm saying is that we're not at the level of a USC or Texas at recruiting. Sometimes we are going take a few low rated guys with some potential because we couldn't get the 4 or 5 star.

Agree completely... can some of us just leave the recruiting up to the coaches, and stop bagging on these kids before they even take the field.. Let's re-evaluate this class in 5 years..

The great thing about a QB like this is that he'll make for a quality backup who won't be delusional about how much playing time he gets. This isn't a kid in the line of TP or Boyd who spent the whole recruiting process having sunshine blown up his backside. This is a kid who will come in and work for every minute he gets on the field. If he does well, then great! But, more than likely, what we may have here is a solid no.3 or no.4 QB who is not likely to transfer the minute he realizes he won't be starting right away.

Or, I could be wrong, and this kid may be a true diamond in the rough.

Either way, I like the pickup. Can't be too deep at QB in CK's offense.

And, a final thought, I wonder if this is any indication to the progress of Costa's knee rehab?

Offers is actually a very good way to evaluate a player.

However, if this guy is a track star for his state. He runs a 4.5, and he does well in the weight room:
Bench max: 245 pounds
Squat max: 405 pounds
Vertical: 34 inches
(from: rivals.com)

The speed and body is there, now you just got to teach him to catch. Sounds like he could be a steal after a redshirt and a few years getting into the system.

99 have you watched his video yet? I justg did and call me crazy but I have a good feeling about this kid. If we really are wanting him at QB I would greyshirt and redshirt him and have Kelly cram mechanics down his throat but he definitely has the running aspect down. He looked like Pat White with his running ability. I would say that he is being recruited as an athlete but his measurables and video sell it for me. ZII(III)NG!

I don't think Quiz Rodgers had any big-time offers either, did he?

Guys, talent can be developed and this kid looks like he could be molded. He's got a very high GPA and ACT score and Frost obviously thinks he can play D1 ball in the Pac-10. There's no reason to think that he would end up as a QB. I would consider him an ATH recruit until he molds himself into a position. He's an obvious redshirt candidate and by then I'm willing to bet we start hearing about what position he might play.

The kid plays hurt too. He sprained his ankle in a clutch gold medal winning triple jump attempt on his final try, then came back the next day to get third in the hurdles limping badly to the finish. He also broke his throwing arm side collar bone in football this last fall and stayed in the game to throw 2 more TD passes.

Today was huge for us IMO. We learned of Braxton Lane and we got this kid. Both are rated 2 stars but I have a good feeling that they won't end up looking that way when it's all said and done.

Last note.... this kid is a lock to qualify... just sayin'.

Quiz had a decent offer list...Baylor, Arizona & Illinois were the bigger ones.

Like him all you want, but there is a big difference between Northern Iowa and Oregon. I'm also realistic and understand that not every recruit Oregon gets is going to be a stud. I think some people here feel the need to "kiss up" sometimes instead of revealing their true feelings.

You do make a good point of kissing up and to the other extreme of "we didn't want/need him anyways". I can get caught up in that as well but his video actually did surprise me and I would have thought he'd at least be a solid 3 star after watching it. IYAM I think he would be a better WR prospect then Adam Hall who is much higher rated.
