Re: Chris Metcalf
Your right I didn't pay attention, I thought in the video he was going up against Harris but it's Hall, who is 6'4 and on the right I didn't read the name of the player listed, I thought the picture was of Metcalf but it's Carrol who is 5'10.

Re: Chris Metcalf
If we only have around 17 offers next year then I say don't sign him. Next year is going to be the best year ever for us in recruiting. We could honestly fill out the class with all 3*'s 4*'s and 5*'s. In fact I think we can have a USC type year 4-5*'s 12-4*'s and 2-3*'s.....No Joke

Re: Chris Metcalf
Greg Biggins has an update on him in his ESPN blog.
It basically says USC claims they did not have all of the paperwork necessary to send out the LOI, he now has it and can sign it now if he wanted to, but he's thinking about taking 4 trips and Oregon is a clear candidate as he and DT Justin Brown really would like to play together. Stay Tuned.
A safety that USC wanted, what do you want us to wait for? That is gravy right there.

Re: Chris Metcalf
I'm a little conflicted in this situation. On one hand, it would be nice to get a very talented safety from USC. On the other hand, it would take away from the amount of scholarships Oregon could offer next year to a very talented 2010 recruiting class. I'm almost wanting Oregon to miss out on him so they can get some more players next year, but he has a reasonable chance of coming to Oregon since Justin Brown is his cousin and he could help with the depth at safety.jhopduck wrote:Greg Biggins has an update on him in his ESPN blog.

Re: Chris Metcalf
I think the question is: Are we going to get 17 better guys next year than this guy that USC wants? I mean, there's only so many five-star guys out there, and frankly, if we have the room now, that's a year in the system that Metcalf would have over any new guy next year. I say go for it if he looks like a skilled safety (not a future linebacker). How does that saying go...A Byrd in the hand..?

Re: Chris Metcalf
That is my philosophy as well if this kid is a lock down deal and we want him, take him, instead of gambling that someone else this caliber is there next year and is interested in us.

Re: Chris Metcalf
I think I'd rather wait & save a scholly for next year. It's not like Metcalf is a 5*. Just because he was a USC commit doesn't make him one either. If we really are going to have only 15-17 schollies to offer for the '10 class, we should wait.

Take him, it is a psychological as well as a moral victory over SC. If he really is available and wants to come.I'm not sure but I would guess he has all the tools.

Re: Chris Metcalf
Is it possible this was a package deal to get Justin Brown - waiting to see if BB uses the last schollie? Just wondering, I don't have any knowledge pointing towards this, Thanks.

Re: Chris Metcalf
Why are we debating not taking a guy who played in the AAA(Army All-American) bowl? I doubt we will get 15-17 All Americans next year so lets take one now if/when he wants to come here. MB said Brian Jackson was going to be looked at at corner first and we lost Leon so we still have an opening there.

Re: Chris Metcalf
Should we take a 4 star safety? are people actually saying we shouldnt ? Safety is actually a position of need for us and USC wants him, if he wants to be a duck then by all means we should take him.

Re: Chris Metcalf
I say take him, if he was offered by USC and is an All-American then don't pass up the opportunity. If the Ducks are limited to a smaller number of scholarships next season I am sure they will work some things somehow to get the number of guys they want. It makes no sense to pass on someone in hopes of getting someone else in the future, there are no guarantees for the future.

Re: Chris Metcalf
I didn't realize he was that good of a prospect. I had just seen his Rivals profile where his a 3*. My main thought was how bad it would suck to have to turn away a top rated recruit cuz we were out of scholarships. We'd being doing that now with Metcalf though so I have changed my mind, Let's get him coaches!
