At 6'4/225, how in the world did Barr end up as a RB (He also plays Safety, which will possibly be a big need for Oregon next season)? It would have been interesting to see more shots of him on the recieving end of pass plays, at TE or WR...

In addition to Oregon, Barr currently has offers from Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, USC and UCLA. (The Domers likely have the early inside track on Barr, as his father (Tony Brooks) and uncle (Reggie Brooks) played running back at Notre Dame... Per ESPN And Reggie Brooks is an employee of UND.com) Notre Dame considers him an 'athlete' prospect.

This forum had an interesting quote:

"At 6-foot-4, 230-pounds, Anthony Barr of Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola is physically comparable to USC safety Taylor Mays. Although not quite as fast or athletic, Barr has proven to be a gifted and bruising tailback and is almost certainly a top 100 caliber player nationally. Through six games, the workhorse running back has amassed 1,008 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 105 carries. Barr is being recruited as an athlete and has received a scholarship offer from USC, but considering he has more ties to South Bend than Mike Golic has Nutrisystem commercials, Barr is widely expected to sign with the Irish. However, whether he plays running back at the next level remains in question." (HaHa!)

"Barr, a legitimate 6 feet 4 and 230 pounds with 4.5 or better speed in the 40..."

Based on that list here is who I think we have LEGIT shots with, and a bit of a wish list for now..

Gardner-likely 5* best dual threat in US likely.
Clements-great chance
M. Jones-decent shot, great player
McCartney-great chance, hope to see him unofficial to Oregon soon
Owa-good shot, but may leave state of Oregon
Fehoko-family ties to Oregon and to T.Tech IIRC.
Badger-GREAT shot
Barr-stretch
Uko-decent shot

Gardner would be a monster in the Ducks' offense, even though his throwing mechanics are really screwed up at times when you watch his tapes.

I was looking on Talefeathers & there was a post saying: Owa "looking to leave the state right now". I don't know what the post says because I don't have a subscription but it doesn't look good. Why is it that so many of the good in state prospects want to leave the state?

IMO the better prospects leave is simply because they can! We love our Ducks and I' sure some of them do too but if you have the option to go to a top school and get a change of scenery (better weather/atmosphere ect) some will leave, I know I would have at that age!

Lets hope our coaches talk him into staying, if your news is true...

The scout OWa leaving the state thread was heavily paraphrased and was not entirely accurate. However Owa is going to be a battle.

SIDE NOTE:
Ivan McCarteny from Florida just got his offer from Miami he was looking for. Be prepared for battle boys.

I think it's the fact that they didn't grow up with a "big time" program in their back yard. We're getting there but we don't have the tradition of other programs yet. Look at a kid like Bryce Mcneil, he didn't stay home and play for his local school. Bryce Brown for that matter.

The common theme seems to be that the local school isn't elite, and the player is. If we can keep our recent success going, or even build on it, in a few years more and more kids who graduate will have grown up seeing a constantly successful Oregon program on TV and it will be an acceptable destination for elite NW talent.

Too many, think we are a flash in the pan, that will go away again into irrelevancy. It will take a few more years to show them differently.

I doubt McCarteny makes the unofficial now. If he does then I will get ready for a battle. Unless he does, I will consider him a Cane.

Hopefully we can show him opportunity and success on the field...UM IMO has to show them an offense that is next to useless!

BUt I do agree we are in for a battle for many Florida guys because I think UF will offer next!
