Very disappointing performance. Like wounded said the other day, this team needs a shooter they can rely on.

Re: Oregon @ Virginia
This team is going to struggle offensively, there's no doubt about that.
But I was impressed at our defense. Despite Virginia shooting over 50%, we held them to only 63 points. We played slow down defense, caused a solid amount of turnovers, and didn't give them too many second chance points (granted their best big man was out for the game). Also, we show the ball more than they did.
Overall, those are awesome signs of improvement. The only problem is we have ZERO scorers on this team outside of basically Catron.

Re: Oregon @ Virginia
This game did not proceed, at all, as I had anticipated it prior to tip-off. Losing Mike Scott, if only for a while, is a major blow for UVa. The major key, as I saw it, was Virginia's ability to adjust to Oregon's pressure. I think the vast majority of UVa's turnovers occurred in the first 10 minutes of the game. It was just your luck that K. T. Harrell picked last night to finally show why he was so highly ranked as a recruit. Below is the box score from UVa's site, in case anyone is interested. Although judging by the lack of basketball chatter on the various Oregon boards, I presume that most of your fans are occupied with thoughts of football. And, rightfully so. Oh, and I hope that those of you that managed to make it to the JPJ Center enjoyed our facility, if not your trip to Charlottesville. Go 'Hoos!!!

Re: Oregon @ Virginia
I thought our defense was horrid, especially, as the Cav fan mentioned, the last 30 minutes of the game. We allowed Virginia to shoot well over 60% the second half, and they 'only' scored 63 because they only took 44 shots all game. They picked their spots and executed perfectly, we were trying to play catch up.

Re: Oregon @ Virginia
We need someone who can shoot from outside to keep the defense honest. UVA contained Catron inside along w/ Jacob and not one player could constantly hit the shot to bring an extra defender outside.
73CAV, I went to the game and it was a great arena and the area around was enjoyable as well. I enjoyed the hall of fame section in the arena and was very fan friendly.

Re: Oregon @ Virginia
Altman can only do so much with what he has to work with which is very little so even with the conference being down again it is going to be a struggle yet I think the team has already done better than what most people expected and will probably end up with a similar record to last season with far less talent. Altman will have this program winning once he gets the athletes in place, we have seen that he can recruit and coach so it things should be looking up from here.

Thanks for stopping by. I went to Charlottesville earlier this year and was able to attend a UVa football game with a few alums I know. The fans were great and Charlottesville is a very nice college town.73CAV wrote:This game did not proceed, at all, as I had anticipated it prior to tip-off. Most posters on this board aren't big basketball fans and in general, support for Oregon basketball has declined significantly over the past few years. The new arena, Dana Altman, and a top 15 2011 recruiting class should help. Altman appears to be a solid x's and o's coach and a surprisingly good recruiter. This year, Oregon has very little depth as five players, including three projected starters, departed.
Check out the blog addictedtoquack. They had a game thread going last night. ATQ does a fairly good job of covering Oregon basketball.
You guys are in good hands with Tony Bennett. He did an incredible job at Wazzu, despite its horrendous location and relatively small fan base. Bennett is a good recruiter, but an even better coach.
I definitely see UVa becoming a top 4-5 ACC program under Bennett.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”
