The better question should be: Why couldn't we bring in a top notch coach or at least someone better than Kent? For starters, we play in a major conference. We are getting a new arena. We have Phil Knight. We have a beautiful campus and a nice city. We couldn't get a Rick Pitino, but I'm sure we could get someone good. Personally, I don't think any coach should survive after a season like this. This "one more year" stuff is getting old.

I think what they say about Kent is very fair and what many of us on these boards think about the situation.

EXACTLY.

After last year, everyone said that Ernie deserved one more year and look what he did in that year.

No kidding. Last year we had a senior laden team that returned 4 players from an Elite 8 team. Of course we under achieved & everyone was saying to give him one more year.

I can see it now. Next year we will finish around .500, completely under achieve & there will be a large contingent wanting him gone. All the Ernie supporters & mediocrety settlers will beg for one more year & tell us we will never be able to get a coach of Ernies caliber here, ever again. It's honesty getting rediculous & I don't see any end in sight.

Oregon could very easily get a better coach than Kent, look at teams like Utah, BYU, New Mexico, Butler, Gonzaga, Marquette, etc. Teams that are in smaller conferences but have better coaches and they are all teams that will make the tournament this year. Utah lured their coach away from the assistant ranks in the NBA, I am sure Oregon could do the same. As long as Kent has been coaching this team there is no excuse for the teams performance this year, the Ducks could have brought in a new coach this year and a first year coach would have done better. Not another year for Kent, it is time for someone new.... period.
