Sad to see him go but the rebuild can really begin. They now have a potential young center to pair with Scoot/Sharpe/Simons and a few draft picks that should be valuable once the young guys are hitting their prime. If they can net a some more young players and FRP for Holiday, the deal is about as good as they could expect without having to deal with Miami's weak offer.

Love this trade! Probably the best-possible outcome given Dame's salary and the new CBA.

LOVE that he's not going to Miami. Also love that this move greatly increases the chances of Giannis resigning with Milwaukee, meaning he, too, probably isn't going to Miami.

Thankful that Cronin didn't make a panic move. He played his hand perfectly. Definitely won some respect from me today.

Also glad that Dame will have a real shot at a title and that it's not in a huge market. Sorry, Stephen A. ;)

Excited to turn the page and cheer on our new core.

RIP CITY!

Wow!!! It happened! The eternal winter is over and the sun is starting to peek through the clouds.

I love that Miami and Lillard didn't succeed in their attempt to screw the Blazers. I also find it hilarious that when Lillard finally gets traded, it's for Jrue Holliday, who kicked his overpaid butt in that epic series sweep. It's really too bad we can't keep Jrue in Portland - I would love for our young guards to learn how to actually play both ends from a guy who knows how it's done. Still, getting more pieces for him is an attractive proposition as well.

Love that they kept Simons. Can't believe they were able to jettison Nurkic and Little and Johnson as well. Bad money going out, and potentially great money coming back. I haven't read enough about these players yet, but my initial reaction is that I am surprised Cronin had the sense and skill to get this done. I feel like some people here owe him an apology.

Wow, now we can look forward to the season starting and seeing how all the pieces fit. So great.

Drinking in those salty tears:

People always accuse others of the stuff they did.

P.S. I will continue to believe that Toronto was the scare Lillard needed to accept a trade to Milwaukee.

Very good cause we can flip Jrue easily for a couple of 1sts.

If we get a single first for Jrue, that'll be a win. They're a lot more valuable under the current salary cap.

I wasn't super impressed by Sharpe during summer league, so I'm a little worried about the gamble. But gotta do what you gotta do.

With Jrue making $30M+, they're likely going to have take back at least one bad contract along with any FRPs and young players. I expect Miami, Philly, Boston, and Chicago to get involved for Holiday.

I think people might be underestimating Holiday's trade value a tad.

I also found this about the trade options for Holiday. Essentially they could involve a 4th team or trade him outright on his own immediately but would have to wait 60 days if they include any other current Blazers in a deal.
Jrue's salary with incentives is $36.9M. Without incentives it is $35M. If a Jrue trade can be created before the Dame is officially filed, that trade could be expanded to 4 teams without waiting. If not, we can trade Jrue at anytime as long as we do NOT aggregate his salary with other Blazer players. If we aggregated his salary (for a bigger trade) then we would have to wait 60 days. With his high $36.9M salary that would likely be unnecessary.

Can't believe they were able to jettison Nurkic and Little and Johnson as well.
I really enjoyed watching Nurk, but he was a big problem and he was about to turn into a bigger problem. He never regained his pre-injury form and was increasingly drifting off during games. Seemed like the only player last year who clearly didn't fit within a culture of accountability. He would have spiraled on a rebuilding team, and to unload his contract and replace it with DeAndre Ayton is a massive win for Portland. This trade isn't the volume haul we've seen for other superstars, but it solved two of our biggest problems -- the logjam at guard and being stuck on Nurk's contract -- and gave us a damn good solution at center.

Also, re: Jrue, agree that it's tempting to want him to mentor Scoot but we'll likely get back sneaky good value for him on the trade market. Blazer insiders were reporting pretty quickly today that Cronin is already getting lots of calls from suitors. I definitely feel he'll command a better return on the open market than a 2 who can't play D.

Today feels like a win for most Blazer fans. If there's one thing we could still argue about, maybe it's what should eventually happen with Anfernee Simons. I still don't see how he co-exists with Sharpe and Scoot; I don't think Ant's ceiling at the 1 or 2 is as high, and he'll make too much money long term to come off the bench. I also don't think we should pretend like Sharpe is a 3 when he could be an elite 2. Good thing though is we could spend the next year trying to figure this out before we really need to take action on it.

Let's see Joe send Jrue to Philly for Harden and picks before trading Harden for more picks a few months later and an expiring!

Meh, unless someone is really high on Jovic, not sure what they could have offered.

I think Riley knew he had one chance at scaring Joe into a deal and if he didn't take it, it wasn't going to work. The Miami media will blame him, but he also could only do so much. I think this should be viewed as a win for Cronin less than a Riley loss.

The only loser in this deal is Milwaukee, who just traded a proven winner for a high-maintenance, overpaid prima donna who might give them one or two decent years (if he can even stay healthy) before the salary cap bomb goes off. If they can keep Giannis in town, maybe it was worth it, but if they still lose him, they are going to be so far up a creek. Much like the Blazers have been the past several years, except maybe worse.

I could see where Miami fans might be wondering now why they lost Strus and Vincent. It would be funny to see them offer more for Holiday than they did for Lillard out of desperation.

I'm pretty sure Giannis will resign now so it could be a true win:win type trade where the Bucks get a better chance at a trophy to make it all worth the lean years where Portland will recoup their lottery picks right as they need to pay Scoot/Shae and surround them with more talent. I tend to be a believer in the Flags Fly Forever theory of going for it all so while I recognize that it could all blow up for the Bucks, they could also net themselves another trophy to where they don't care about those years.
