Nope

Very little will be built off this year.
Except the opposite is almost assuredly true.

Sure, Loyd has some developing to do. He was a freshman.
There were only 3 guards with a significantly better ratio and 2 of them were on UW... a substantially better team.

Armstead was as good or better than 70-80% of the starting PGs in the league.... If you think they're mostly all mediocre... then I accept that... the Pac 10 was pretty bad.... but he was significantly better than anyone else we had.
If he was significantly better than anyone else we had, he wouldn't have lost his job to a true freshman for half the season. There's not a ton of differences between Armstead and Loyd's games right now, and Loyd has the much higher upside. Honestly, you're reacting like we just lost Luke Ridnour. Armstead is hardly an irreplaceable cog in the machine.

My biggest turn-off with Armstead has nothing to do with assist-to-TO ratio or his jump shooting relative to the rest of the guards; it's his remarkable ability to give the appearance of only playing when he felt like it. It just didn't look like the effort/desire was always there & it was made pretty clear. He could go from phenomenal to lackadaisical pretty quickly throughout the span of a game. Call me old school, but I want someone who wants to be here and will show it.

Regardless, I feel like Lloyd's ability to penetrate could open up some opportunities for our new shooters; making up for whatever we lost in Armstead's perimeter game. Also, who knows how Lloyd will develop at the point? Maybe he develops his shot a little more--Maybe Barron fills that role?

Everything Altman will do at Oregon will be built off the foundation this year provided. He took over a backwards program and won 21 games. Establishing not only his brand of basketball but a sense of winning and the probable recruiting windfalls that come out of this season are literally everything we could have asked for going into the year. Calling it a 'wasted season' is ass-backwards wrong.

I asked you if every season but 5 or 6 years in Oregon hoops history have been 'wasted' because I'm not sure you understand how programs are built. Unless you're Kentucky and can land 5 All Americans in one class and make deep tournament runs right away, you have to go in steps, and we took a mighty big step this season.

He hardly lost his job.... Armstead was 3rd in mpg... he also had/played through health issues with his knee.

No, I'm simply saying that he was a good not mediocre player.... not a lottery pick

Not everyone has to tear down a player because he chooses to leave... and frankly I think your an asshat in trying to do so.

Unless Loyd has an amazing off season... then I think there will be a drop off next year... probably not real significant though considering I think we're destined for another mediocre season anyways.

He did indeed lose his job.

Calm down, sparky, I've been criticizing Armstead all year. It's not my fault you haven't been paying attention.

I hardly call this a "mighty" step forward this team had essentially the same record as the year before.... minus the CBI.

Teams need to make improvements year to year..... This team graduates after next season... So unless something meaningful happens next season (highly doubtful) then I think this was a wasted season. The only tangible thing that we have moving forward is the development of Singler & possibly Loyd. I suppose playing 500 ball could help us in recruiting... but I think we have better things going for us than that.

Like I said... imo the rebuilding starts next year... when Altman get's his first real class.

oregontrack I respect your opinions on Duck basketball more than anyone else on this forum for the most part. I think your take on Armstead is off though. The guy was hurt for most of the season, knees and back being the most serious of them. Even though Loyd started most of the second half of the season do you really think that he beat Armstead out? You get on Armstead for his assist to turnover ratio, but remember the first half to two thirds of the season no one could hit a wide open shot. You can't get assists if your teammates aren't making shots.
I don't think this was a wasted year, and I think that the future of Duck basketball looks pretty bright. I just think that in certain situations in games you need someone that can break down a defender and create a shot for yourself or a teammate and Armstead was really good at that.

On this board? I doubt it.....

Most people on here still think we don't have enough DT's... and our defense was the main cause of our last 2 BCS losses...

A lot of you are displaying the same attitude that thinks the backup QB is always better than the starter. I for one think this is a big loss. A healthy Armstead is a very good player. Loyd is not a better player than a healthy Armstead and I'm not sure he ever will be. I don't see him exploding into something extraordinary. We better hope that our other PG options grow up fast cause Loyd will get abused if he has to play the primary PG for 30 minutes a game.

And honestly, when he was playing good, he is one of the best PGs in the Pac-10. Unfortunately, we only say him play is great basketball about a quarter of the time.

Pretty random for sure. I think we'll be OK, but it still sucks to lose a potential senior.
Completely agree. I don't get the point of the "blessing in disguise comments." It's a stretch to view the losing of a veteran point guard as a good thing. I guarantee Altman didn't go home saying "Thank God, now I have some room for some scholarships," or "Now I can start my freshmen." He wouldn't have saw the floor this year if it didn't benefit us. Without a doubt he brought something to the table this year, something unique, and we were better overall for it. Even extremely talented PGs learn from lesser talented veterans. While he may not be a program changer, he is a significant loss and should be recognized as so.
Surprised you were able to agree with me with all those typos.
