Nice to see only 2 players play over 30 minutes and there are 7 players in double figures. Really no excuse for the Spurs to lose by so many.

lol @ the spurs without parker, duncan, and ginobili.

i would like to see how many teams in nba history scored in single figures in the first quarter one night, then topped 40 in the first quarter the next. obviously we were playing a d-league team last night, but that's still quite the turnaround.

r u serious? I actually applaud the Spurs for doing what so many other teams are afraid to do with this schedule - lose a game on purpose to rest your important players. Nate could take a cue because he'll play LMA and others until the last 45 seconds of most blowouts losses for Portland. The running joke in the NBA right now is teams trying to see if they have the next Jeremy Lin on their roster anywhere but the overwhelming majority of coaches are not going to experiment with young guys unless they are injury riddled at the position like the knickers were. (EWill could give us 20 a night and 7 tos if we asked him to do the same thing and frankly, if I'm the Knicks I'd rather have Calderon than Lin for Dantonio's system because he's a facilitator)

Take Chris Johnson. I actually think he should be starting and Camby coming off the bech because CJ is the same kind of player and we might as well see if he can play or not. Sitting him on the bench isn't going to help anyone decide if he can be the C of the future going forward next to LMA. Of course, with this roster we need to be running more especially since we have some bigs who can run but that's not going to happen until Nate is gone. Of course, I'm not sure why any respectable coach or GM would want to work in Portland under Paul Allen/Vulcan but thats another story...

What Poppovich did was tell those young players that they've got to step it up in one of the most difficult places to win a game in the NBA. Pops knew that it would have been hard to get the win anyways so this way you rest your main guys while giving the young players a chance to grow into those roles that they'll have to take on soon enough. Yes, it was an embarrassing loss for them but it doesn't count as two losses which they may have just prevented by giving those guys the rest.

i didn't realize tiago splitter didn't play last night, too, meaning the spurs started 6'7 dajuan blair at center.

i agree with the Duck07, kudos to popovich for doing what's better for the long term benefit of the spurs by resting everybody. everyone loves phil jackson, but i always thought popovich was the best coach in the game.

4 titles with tim duncan > 11 titles with michael jordan and kobe bryant.

imo.

looks like pryz chose pdx over the heat, a few other teams, and retirement.

glad he'll retire a blazer. once upon a time, the spurs, in their championship glory, came hard after pryz and wanted him to start alongside tim duncan. i believe they offered him the same, a very similar, contract to what we offered, and he chose to stay with a rebuilding portland team because he loved the city and organization so much. good dude.

Didn't really look at San Antonio's side in the box score after seeing the final score so assumed they just had a cr@ppy game. Now knowing they didn't have their Big 3 really changed how I look at the game now.

Nice to see Joel coming back to the blazers, his heart is definitly here in Portland. I think a couple years ago he chose to comeback here over San Antonio and Detroit when they were an elite team.

Yeah this makes me happy. It's amazing how much less Pryz has been paid in his career then Greg Oden does in just a couple years, yet Pryz has always been a consistent center for us. Gotta love his blocking and rebounding.

well, the blazers blow chunks but my pacers have the 4th best record in the east. we need to catch orlando to get homecourt in the first round, though.

Hibbert is one of those young players that I'd love to see next to LMA. :D

Just saw a rumor that we could possibly send Felton to Toronto for Calderon (which works straight up) in what would be an amazing steal.

http://blogs.canada.com/2012/02/22/5-po ... -calderon/

it also looks like Portland could possibly be the most likely team too unless Atlanta or Orlando give up more than they'd like.

that'd be a nice short term solution. we'd get better, even if that's counter-productive to what i want this team to do. i wouldn't re-sign him after 2013, but that gives us yet another year to continue our never-ending search for our newest point guard of the future. i don't know why toronto would do this, unless it's a straight up salary dump.

All we need is a true PG. We don't really even need him to score. Calderon would be perfect.

gonna disagree there. portland needs a lot more than a point guard. wesley matthews is a 41% shooter and crawford is nothing more than a one-year rental gunner. wallace is just as likely to drop 25 as he is 4 points.

and i love camby. let that be known. but we need another center, and even though i love joel pryzbilla the human being, he's not going to do anything on the basketball court. if i were to nuke this team and start over, i'd keep three players (lma, batum, williams). jose calderon isn't going to solve the problems plaguing this franchise, he'd keep us in contention for a #7 or #8 seed and we'd flounder out in 6 games, again.

musings:

we're 18-17. as of this moment in time, about 40 minutes before tipping off against the heattles, we are in 9th place in the west. lottery bound.

THAT'S PERFECT. we're a lottery team RIGHT NOW. we'll likely lose to the heat tonight. we've got two winnable games coming up, then we're on a 7 game road trip:

@ minnesota
@ boston
@ wash
@ indy
@ new york
@ chi
@ okc

we're going to go 1-6 on this trip. i'll give the blazers the benefit of the doubt and assume they'll beat the wiz, even though they beat the snot out of us in pdx a couple weeks ago. there's a great chance we'll return home at the end of march and be buried in the standings.

bring on the fire sale!

i keep hearing that portland is hot and heavy in their pursuit of steve nash. sure, nash is great, but is he anything more than a one-time fix? we're in a great spot right now to rebuild, lots of $$ coming off the books, lots of tradeable parts, and perhaps a top 10-11 pick in a very deep draft. nash will help us make the playoffs this year, but so what?
