The history argument pisses me off to the highest degree!!

A few points on the subject...
- Before the scholarship limit schools like ours had no chance to compete for title year in year out!
- Cities in major recruiting areas/area of population have the big advantage!
- Schools with the "so-called/biased" histories have favorable rankings and poll voting!
- As long as a system of voting (BCS, AP CP polls ect) in place we will always be at a disadvantage against schools with history...

I love the fact that every year we are seeing more and more parity and that the talent/recruits are not all going to the same schools every year. Sure we and schools like us will always be at a disadvantage because of the points above but all we need to do is recruit like we have been and we'll be fine!

I remember Oregon making a "play-for-pay" trip to Nebaraska during the early Brooks years... The R-G wrote an article delineating the differences between the programs.

The way the article described their facilities, and the awful manner in which Oregon's compared, gives a completely different perspective to the current attitude other schools (Especially the "National Programs" described by fans of tOSU, Oklahoma, and USC), talk about the facilities here. LOL... Talk about a double standard!

The Nebaraska team (Pre-schollie limits) had more scholarship players in uniform (Minimum 3-4 times the number Oregon travelled that year) than Oregon would field in 2 years. Their third string could have started for most teams in the nation that season.

My, how times have changed.

wounded it was unbelievable back then (not for you and I ) what an uphill battle we had to deal with...no wonder the big programs dominated the way they did, its almost criminal (the money they made ect.)

Not only the money they made, but the way the big boys got away with stuff... Oregon got slammed in a 'bogus credits scandalthat absolutely destroyed what should have been a great season (Reggie Ogburn's second season, I believe), at the same time similar or worse transgressions by some of the biggest programs in the country were swept under the rug.

Forget history... THis dude thinks Oregon stunk this season...

didnt we have 1 nc? was that for basketball? back in 1930 or more.

the guy was talking about football championships, but i believe the history argument is bs. what makes it history? i think recent history shows that we can compete with the best schools in the nation, year in and year out for the past 14 years.

It is impossible to make a legitimate comparison to programs which were hugely successful in the days when scolarship limits were not even a twinkle in the NCAA's eye... Since the advent of limits parity in recruiting has slowly grown to the point where schools such as Oregon can compete with the historical (Or hysterical, depending on your vewpoint...) powerhouses.

It should scare the heck out of them!

Leading up to the Civil War this year, someone posted an article that ran down the history of Oregon vs the EWE. I am 99% sure that Oregon does have 1 NC in football back in the 40's but I could be wrong. If someone has access to the other board still, can they relink that article for review?

Yes they have. We owe most of it to Brooks, and not just because of all the campaigning he did to get new facilities, etc, but also because he tried hard to make Oregon football fun again. I remember back in the Don Read days how we would "run, run, pass, punt" and lose games by scores of 63-3 to Oklahoma and 5-3 to, San Jose State.

I remember the first game that Brooks coached, when we were at Georgia. He opened up the game with a double reverse and made it fun again. He opened up the playbook with trick plays and kept us in it, even though we were seriously overmatched talent wise. We actually led that game for awhile before losing 27-16.

Yes, times certainly have changed.

Next year is shaping up to be one that if the team can gel and seize the opportunity in front of them it will be one to remember.

Barring major injuries or tragedies this is going to be an amazing team next year. It's not that that far fetched to think would could go undefeated or lose 1 game at the most.

Barring injuries or academics if we are not in a BCS game next year it is a huge let down IMO.
