We'll see if we still have a chance with Harrison if we still get that final in home visit with him. I believe he had a tweet earlier that said he was not on a visit to USC this weekend, he was just in the area because of some somber family occasion for his Aunt? I think the one that has a high chance of flipping is Ezeike because he took his OV to USC this weekend and then tweeted change of plans. It s going to be an exciting finish.Phalanx wrote:Sounds like Harrison might have committed to FSU on his visit as well. Really hoping Williams quacks, otherwise, this will be a pretty anticlimactic signing day. It sounds like he has made multiple visits to USC this weekend, including coming back with his family. Ugh. Probably why Tucker is getting attention now.

The boards I was reading said that Williams went to the funeral and visited USC, and then came back today and visited with his family. These are USC fans though, so who knows. They seem to think they made some serious inroads with him, with the help of his 'handler'.alxtw wrote:We'll see if we still have a chance with Harrison if we still get that final in home visit with him. Sounds like Oregon is confident they'll get at least one commit from Martin, Ojomo, and Ossai. As for OL, they sent Salave'a and GA Woodiel to visit Sewell while also bringing in a tablet so Cristobal could Facetime the visit since he's already used his one HC home visit to Sewell. He's a must-take for this class but him not committing wouldn't break it since they think highly of the other 4 OL commits they got already.GrantDuck wrote:As long as we get Williams, I'm happy at WR. Anything else is a bonus.
Hoping for good news on the DL/OL more than anything outside of that.

I'll reserve judgment until the dust settles, but if it plays out like that I am inclined to doubt their closing ability as well. To be honest it's looking like Willie was the dynamo behind all the recruiting momentum. We've heard how great of a recruiter Cristobal is, but a particularly unenthusiastic potato could recruit to Bama.StevensTechU wrote:Overall, the latest on the wide receivers makes me nervous about the recruiting prowess of this staff going forward, perhaps more than anything. Wide receiver was an exceptionally deep position out west this year (USC, uw, UCLA all have stellar classes at the position, plus lots of guys leaving the region for college).
As far as what we end up with, if the staff whiffs on the guys who have long been Oregon leans -- Battle, Ezeike, Williams -- and we end up with Tucker to go along with Hall and Crocker, it's not the worst. I just finished watching Tucker's highlights, and actually think he's comparable to most of the aforementioned names despite the lower ranking. Solid player. But as I mentioned, it just doesn't seem to bode well for the staff's ability to close.

Wide receivers are infamously difficult to project or infamously poorly projected by the current scouts (depending on who you ask), which is why you'll see rankings like 247sports' "Top 247" feature a whopping 42 wide receivers (yep, 1/5 of all top football players are apparently WRs by their logic). Most of this has to do with guys being graded based on athleticism alone (shocker: WRs are athletic), and so these scouts don't actually look at their football skills like being able to make contested catches, shield defenders, and adjust routes to get open. There's also the issue of 7 on 7 giving these guys more exposure than other positions.duckfan96 wrote:So I’m no great eye when it comes to judging high school players, but Tucker’s tape looked pretty damn good to me. But what do I know?
IT's amazing when you think of Oregon in particular at WR. Our best WR's have been kids like JJ Birden, Keenan Howry, Jeff Maehl, Demetrius Williams, Pat Johnson..2 and 3 star kids, or kids who weren't highly touted before the * systems.StevensTechU wrote:Wide receivers are infamously difficult to project or infamously poorly projected by the current scouts (depending on who you ask), which is why you'll see rankings like 247sports' "Top 247" feature a whopping 42 wide receivers (yep, 1/5 of all top football players are apparently WRs by their logic). I know that's not what you were asking, but I'm feeling particularly ranty this morning. haha
