Bo Nix is coming to Oregon

I went back through and watched some Auburn tape of the past few years

Good:
- Incredible arm strength
- Willing to take deep shots, and often
- Great at zone read
- Good zip on his throws
- His receivers this year were akin to UO in 2017-18, tons of drops on great throws
- Can scramble and make plays

Bad:
- Throws off his back foot way too often. Like way too often
- Tries to force some throws in tight windows
- Sometimes scrambles when he doesn't need to
- He can spin out of a lot of sacks....but when he doesn't get free it's for huge 10-20 yard losses

Overall, he is WAY better than Anthony Brown for sure. If he can get coached up on his footwork, namely stepping into throws instead of jumping back and slinging it, he will be very effective. I think he is very comparable to Bryan Bennett, who went on and had a brief stint in the NFL but is overlooked by Ducks fans since he was here when we had Marcus.

Some of the issues with Nix has been having a poor OL around him and having 3 OCs in 3 years. Nix reuniting with Dillingham would represent him playing with the same OC in multiple years for the first time in his career.

I really don't mind this move at all and considering that Lanning is trying to hit the ground running here, having a Veteran QB is a good thing. I'm expecting great things from our Defense and I think our offense today is suited to run the ball the way Dillingham wants to so that we can take those shots down field.

Beating Georgia in Atlanta would be quite the start for Lanning and if nothing else I think Nix could give us a punchers chance in that game.

Thanks for posting this. Listening to Auburn fans, this is basically what their consensus is as well. He’s much closer to a Herbert type than he is an AB (people have forgotten how inconsistent Herbert was here). Nix is similar in that he’s a really high ceiling guys that has struggled to put it together, where AB was a low ceiling guy.

A change of scenery and conference could do wonders.

Wow..Dixon threw 14 picks his junior year? Crazy.
Funny how I sometimes have selective memory.

Just goes to show you that numbers are not everything. Those guys could push the ball down the field, so while their numbers don't look too much different than AB's numbers this year, those teams were able to get explosion plays that the 2021 team was not getting.

I think Nix can actually push the ball downfield, so hopefully we will take those shots next year.

In DD’s defense, he took a huge leap forward from his junior to senior year. Most agreed the Jr year Dixon was not good and there was speculation he wouldn’t have a starting job if he even returned from baseball.

Nix isn't even the issue. Sure, he may come out and throw for 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns this year and it will be great!

The issue is the future of the Ducks as far as player development and recruiting. I guarantee you if Nix is named starter one, or all of the quarterbacks currently on our roster will hit the transfer portal. The days of kids sitting and waiting patiently on the bench are over. You either develop them and give them some playing time, or they will go somewhere where they can play. They signed on with Oregon because they thought they had a chance at playing, but if every single year Oregon hits the transfer portal for an average starting quarterback with more on the field experience, recruits will look at that and think to themselves, "I'm not gonna go all the way up north to sit on the bench, I can do that at Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Florida, Florida St" and on and on and on. Eugene isn't exactly the prime destination for 4 years of college. The kids want to shine on Saturdays like they saw Mariota and Herbert shine every single year. I guarantee you if Oregon just goes lazy and hits the portal every year for someone elses leftovers, elite quarterbacks will stop signing with the program.
And that is not even asking the obvious, "How is a kid supposed to gain on the field experience if you won't let them actually get........ya know, ON THE FIELD experience"?????? The TT's and Butterfield's are not going to get valuable experience riding the benching year after year after year. At some point you have to coach them up and kick them out the nest and see if they fly. Let these kids get on the field and lets see after 6-8 games what we have.

Now as far as me personally, I don't want to see one year starter after one year starter. How bout we actually DEVELOP a quarterback and he starts for THREE STRAIGHT years instead of changing systems and quarterbacks every 12 months? What is wrong with that?

I don't wish Bo ill will, He obviously wants a shot at the NFL and the coaches told him he will have that at Oregon, but what message did they just send Ty and Butter......enjoy the bench for another year.

I swear I will go ballistic if TT transfers and lights it up somewhere else. He trusted the school and came here to play football. He wasn't a distraction, he didn't bitch in social media, he didn't whine about not getting playing time despite watching the team get absolutely ROLLED twice in three weeks and didn't even get to play one snap to help the team. Now the current coaching staff is sending a message that hey, we are going to go with a more experienced starter and lets see how that goes. I don't like it. Him and Butter did their time on the bench, we should have never brought in Nix.

I think that's kind of the point. All of these QBs took pretty big leaps. Granted, some of those completion percentages are a result of a different time with a more pro style offense and fewer screens, but it's entirely possible that Nix continues to show improvement.

That Dixon team scored 10 or fewer points in 3 of its last 4 games and lost all 4. The Clemens team scored 25 ppg, while this year's team averaged 32 and went 5-6. I remember both vividly as they were 2 of the years I attended school there, and those offenses were not the definition of exciting. Not sure they were as explosive as you recall them being.

In the event Nix wins the pole position, I sincerely hope to see development in the other players, including PT in actual games, allowing them to demonstrate the proficiency having an actual QB coach can lead to.
