Idk if you all remember but KingofDucks came on here and essentially gave us the play by play in real time (still the most plugged in person I’ve ever encountered in the ducks online sphere, btw). From people in the know, the boosters who would ultimately be paying Chip’s salary, would have to get over what happened in ‘17. And it sounds like they aren’t, currently.

That’s where the ego narrative stems from. Plus the obvious observation that Lanning would have to be willing to share the spotlight with Chip, which I’m sure he’d be fine with.
That wasn’t KingofDucks who provided that play by play…..

Oh man, you’re right—it was you! Didn’t he make an appearance during that whole saga though? I remember him coming on here to share insider info after being MIA for years.

Haha yes it was me, KingOfDucks did hop on to confirm what I was saying, even though it all ended up not coming to fruition.

Recently Travis Rooke-Lay referenced this on a Rising Rucks podcast and it made me chuckle.

Regarding burnt bridges, from what I know, he moreso burned bridges with the assistant coaches rather than the boosters. Yeah the boosters were upset at Chip but it was the coaches that were ultimately affected the most as they lost their jobs since Willie was given the ability to clean house as the backup plan to Chip, but Chip initially agreeing to come back meant the longtime assistant coaches thought they’d keep their jobs only to basically lose them a day later. I don’t think the Oregon boosters would be the main reason Chip doesn’t come to Oregon.

Well it’s seems I should defer to you on all things insider from now on… I’m curious what Rooke-Lay’s connections are. He seems pretty plugged in but almost seems like an operative for the program. Like always pumping sunshine.

That’s great info, and encouraging. Still think it’s pretty unlikely but I guess there may be fewer hurdles to him returning than I thought. It certainly seems like it would benefit all parties involved. Lanning would get lots of wins, Chip would be revered as a savior by our fan base, and the boosters would see great returns on their investments—unlike this year.

No way haha, back in the day I had solid connections to at least allow to me to provide inside info to go along with my crazy rants, but with the old coaching staff gone I no longer have much inside connection, so now I’m only good for crazy gamethread rants.

I knew the guy that offered overpriced shuttles from PDX to Eugene on game days that included complimentary Frescas. Not really, just old enough to remember when that was a thing on the OLive message boards in the early days of internet.

I do consider Chip as an OC a long shot, but I don't see it as out of the realm of possibility if Oregon throws money at it.

Chip is going to turn 63 this month. Without exact knowledge of his buyout(s), I don't know if there is an exact number; but, between college and the NFL, it is estimated Chip has earned over $70 million since 2007.

I would imagine Northwestern matches up to at least $2 million. How high do we think Oregon is going? If Chip is happy at Northwestern, is he really going to be chasing a couple extra hundred thousand at 63?

If this was 2012, and Chip was 48 and had earned ~$12 million so far from Oregon (2007-2012), maybe you argue chasing dollars might be a big motivator; but, since then Philadelphia, SF, UCLA, tOSU, and the Raiders have provided plenty of salary... I sort of wonder if dollars have the huge appeal to Chip I've seen so many suggest they must? Maybe Chip has blown through $70 million, maybe Chip feels like a couple extra hundred thousand will make his life complete, so I guess maybe it could be possible?

Norvell. He's available. He has a history with the Danimal. He would give us a shot in the arm headed into the tough stretch run. No idea how he would fit with Raiola, Smith and the rest of the QB's present and future. Plus he would probably leave after this year for a head coaching job. Give us all winter to find the right guy? JMTC.
