I think part of the problem Kilkenny was a result of a combination of leadership vacuum (Post Belloti), and and a lack of direction created by "too many chiefs"... I am not convinced the big boosters (Nike/PK1)and the U of O administration (Lariviere) were necessarily on board with 'settling' for a coach of Gregory's stature.

IMO, a coach really needs to be named in the next week. Not only for a chance with Terrence Jones, but to make sure more players don't leave the program and to start preparing for next season.

yea that makes sense. It's possible that Kilkenny wanted a coach like
Gregory but the other chiefs as you said wanted to aim higher. To me
that is and was a big mistake.

I think the problem with these high profile coaches is they don't want to be under the control of a booster (Phil Knight). I know every school has boosters but I don't know of any other schools that have a booster that has the kind influence and control that Phil Knight has at Oregon. It is going to take the right guy to be willing to be under Knights control.

I think it also has to do with most high profile coaches don't want to leave their already plush gigs and have to build from the ground up again.
