"the bad news is that he's not a plus rebounder or defender. i can't imagine a scenario where stotts can keep him in during a close game late. lma is going to have to man up and play a little 5, should this deal go through."
and no, withey is NOT known for his defensive abilities. that's ludicrous. he's a skinny white guy who dropped well into the middle of the second round because there were big doubts about his ability to do anything in the nba. he's nothing more than a raw project.
Is Withey a project? Yes, but he's a project that could be more suited for Portland's needs than Lopez is.
the problem here is that even if he becomes ben freaking wallace, it isn't happening for a number of years and lamarcus would be long gone by then. "portland's needs" at that point would be anyone's guess.
While many are saying Lopez had his best year last year I argue back, does 5.6 rebounds from a 25 year old 7 footer really sell you on this guy? Portland desperatley needs guys that can defend and rebound, and he provides neither
you need to go beyond the numbers a tad. new orleans was dead last in the nba in pace, and adjusting his numbers to what terry stotts wants to run should see a liberal improvement in raw rebounding statistics. i still wouldn't call him a plus rebounder, but you can't merely look at "5.6/per" and scoff.

he's a lot better than victor claver, imo. i assumed he would go to okc.
we have ourselves a little bit of a bench now. nice.

“It was a great opportunity to play with a good team that has great players in Damian Lillard, LaMarcus [Aldridge] and Nicolas Batum," Wright told CSNNW.com. "Coach [Terry] Stotts' style of play was one of the biggest things that enticed me. They run up and down and shoot a lot of threes. It reminds me of my days in Golden State.
“It rains a lot but it's cool with me. I would rather have rain than snow any day. They have some of the best fans in the NBA, so you have to love playing in that type of atmosphere. I just felt this was the best spot for my skill-set and I'm happy to be in Rip City."
Good moves by Olshey, this team could be fun to watch this season now that they have a decent bench

Heck yes:
@jwquick: One of the factors for Dorell Wright in choosing the Blazers: Wright's 5-year-old son is a huge Oregon Ducks fan who loves DeAnthony Thomas

We'll agree to disagree. Lopez would be a good pickup if he were coming off the bench, but he appears to be coming in as the intended starter, which he simply shouldn't be.
As far as Aldridge goes, I don't think he's going to resign with portland when time comes, so I actually hop they trade him, and sooner rather than later. He has great value right now and the sooner he's traded the sooner the team can mesh.
I hope I'm wrong about Lopez, but I haven't seen much out of him that says he can provide much value to this team as this point

How old would chandler be then? It's seems like he has been in the NBA for 100 years.

If the blazers don't sign Roy Hibbert, they should sign Roy Hibbert.

"I want to mentor one of the best point guards in the league in Lillard ... and CJ too. Make them better on and off the court,'' Earl Watson
Jason Quick @jwquick 24m
Earl Watson said he chose Portland because of his relationship with GM Olshey, who he has known since he was 17
Not bad for third point guard

Nice to see he knows his future role on the team. Plus, also good to see Olshey's friendships help us.
