Boyd To Oregon IMO

I decided i hate parents over actively involved in recuriting. Its the kids decision. And it seems parents always want the son to go someplace else other than oregon, usually for distance.

This is why I said in another thread that I think recruiting the east coast is a waste of time at this point, the only program that can really sell parents out east right now is USC... we just aren't there yet. As of right now, we are battling the parents on just about every big time recruit out east that has lots of offers... cuz parents are thinking "Chip Kelly and his offense are nice everything, but there's 6 other schools that are only within driving distance from home that have offered you..." The recruits love us after their visit but the parents either A) don't ever visit Oregon or B) think it's too far away and want them to stay closer to home

When USC goes to the east coast they say "Half of our players go to the NFL, and they are semi-celebrities while they live in LA" and parents go "Okay buddy, have fun in LA, don't forget to write!"

Can someone please send CK this posters belief we should not recruit back east. I am sure he will see the error of his ways.

There will always be exceptions. But there have been countless cases where we just get turned down because distance and other factors. Until we become a national recognized program big time like SC, we will never have consistent recruiting east coast. I think we should stop at Texas/Kansas. And slowly try to establish some ties. Also maybe it was just St Louis, but whenever i walked around there with my oregon gear ppl would either be like tight! or they would be like man u guys have a dirty program. I dont know why the perception of us was so bad there, but that could be a factor also. If we get a coach with eastern recruiting ties that will certainly help.

How can you say in the same post that we shouldn't recruit the east coast and that we need to try and establish some ties. That's what we're doing now, establishing ties, making contacts and at the same time trying to pull a kid or two a year. Saying we shouldn't try is like saying you shouldn't ask out an attractive girl until you know she'll say yes. How are you supposed to know if she'll say yes unless you ask?

As for people saying we have a dirty program, I live in the heart of SEC country, which as we all know is dirty as hell and I've never had someone make a comment about the Ducks being dirty. They all know about the facilities, the uniforms and Dennis Dixon and that's about it. Have no fear however, because I spread the gospel of Duck football everywhere I go!

It's big if a player from the east coast visits here. It's even bigger if the parents also visit! That's why we got Grant IMO. Sure Grant loved the ducks, but if his parents never got to see Oregon themselves, maybe they would have said no and forced him to stay in Florida (or close to Florida).

Oregon needs to start getting parents, especially for east coast recruits, to visit the school also. Very Important. Very.

Totally agree....If Boyd's parents would have gone to Oregon as they did to tOSU and Clemson, he'd already be a Duck

I am just saying until we see more success on the field we won't have solid recruiting ties on the east. Even then, eugene is no where near the major market that LA is. Due to our location it is very very difficult to recruit to mid-west/east-coast, and we do a helluva job at it. Most players have never even heard of anything in Oregon (Tajuan Porter didnt know Oregon was even a state) and likewise most parents do not want their kid going halfway across the country to play for a school with a upper middle class program, when tOSU, Florida, LSU, and many other are potentially in their back yard.

Seriously, you guys have to stop reading so much into his quotes. It's been assumed for a while that he is an Oregon lean. Do you really think a visit that he rated "8.5 out of 10" is going to change that?! Looks very much like his dad is just building some anticipation for Boyds announcement by coming out & saying all three schools are even, IMO. Do you really believe that a visit to Clemson would all of a sudden bring tOSU even with the other two schools? I doubt that very much.

This is exactly what I'm in the process of teaching my 4 year old son. You don't quit just because something is hard. Ususally if it's hard the rewards for doing it are well worth it

I think he coming to The O (New nickname I'm trying out ) There is gonna have to something absolutely drastic for him to change his mind, unless he's been BSing the whole time. When is he gonna announce so we can get this over with?????????
