I think the upshot is that quarterback evaluation is hard and we won't know what we have until we see some sustained game action. And also that quarterback transfers can shake things up out of the blue.
Without even opening it, I already remember how much I hated it. I was big on Casey Thompson, maybe someone else. (Edit: Dillon Gabriel was my top choice, then Thompson.)
Transfer market might be slim this year. Devin Brown is a solid maybe. I sort of wish Jaxson Dart wanted to play out west for us in his last year. I've been watching FCS guys, and the New Hampshire QB is intriguing. Sadly, I just imagine we are 6-6/7-5 with Thompson so we need another guy.

That was a fun read. There were so many unknowns at that time … we had no idea Lanning and his staff would be such ace talent evaluators and developers. Most of us come across as a bit traumatized by Mario and his staff haha.

People should re-read that thread and be careful not to write Ty Thompson off, yet. TT was also a 5-star recruit with all of the physical attributes one would look for in a QB. He seems to have turned a page this season and I have full confidence with another offseason he can be the guy at Oregon.

It's just that he's unproven and the playing time he has received has been less than spectacular.
I do have to remind myself that he's still only a sophomore. I keep thinking he's been around longer than that, but he hasn't.
Bobby Bowden used to swear by having a redshirt junior in place when his starter graduated. Thompson may get his chance. It's just a wait and see scenario.

Gabriel isn’t great to be honest. And lots of people don’t even beleive he’s the best QB on the OU roster. I assume TT can be close to what DG is.
Not sure how you can gauge the transfer market this early. Like it has been, it could be another free-for-all, free agency crazy scenario. Whom doesn’t feel they are getting paid enough? There will be plenty of options come dealing time. Ducks have a healthy collective.
We should probably get used to losing top recruits to Texas now that recruiting is overtly a function of money. As others have said, OL recruiting doesn't have to be just about the top-rated guys. The coaches will have to decide if a player is worth the asking price. Apparently Rushing is and Baker isn't.

Just looking at the guys across the country with eligibility who aren't at top 10 programs. There's an incredible QB draft class this year, but next year might be a step back nationally in QB play. Riley Leonard (Duke) and Michael Pratt (Tulane) are the only Sam Hartman-like players I can think of, as far as juniors who are pretty established. I do wonder if Jaxson Dart could move. Might be a year to look at JUCOs and FCS.

That's a gross oversimplification of the circumstances. If Texas can buy up anyone they want, then why don't they have even a top 10 recruiting class? The Texas coaching staff clearly sold him on stuff beyond just $$$ and I find it counterproductive to writeoff all of our recruiting battle losses to just a money issue.

Yeah, sorry I didn't elucidate on all the nuances of recruiting.
I'm sure there is still a battle for recruits when the money is relatively equal, but if you think money isn't driving the majority of the decisions, particularly for 5-star recruits, you have your head in the sand. Anyway, the rumor is that Baker's asking price was too high for Oregon, but maybe he just likes burnt orange more than green and he doesn't care about the money at all.

When a player doesn't want to go to a particular school the rumor is always "clearly school xyz paid him more." Not everything comes down to money and the color of the uniform. I'm not saying money isn't a factor, but it's almost an insult to the recruit to say that money is the only factor. He couldn't possibly want to go somewhere because of particular major, or because there's people he might know there, or family in the area, or even a better rapport with the coaching staff.
Jordan Seaton, #2 rated OT in the country, is visiting this weekend. Reports are out that the Ducks are making a push for a safety that's currently committed to Florida. Roger Saleapaga is looked at as an Oregon lean. Ducks also have the inside track (at the moment) for Elijah Rushing. Jericho Johnson could still be a Duck, depending on whether Aydin Breland's commitment has any impact.
Ducks are in great shape heading down the stretch. My biggest question is how the heck they're going to make room. Good problem to have.

I imagine some of the guys Lanning didn't recruit will be encouraged to go elsewhere
